Chambonniere, Dussault Win Battle in the Bay Classic Doubles Championship
10/4/2026 3:18:00 PM | Men's Tennis
Second TCU pair in as many years to take the title
SAN FRANCISCO – TCU added two more names to the silver-plated Battle in the Bay Classic championship trophy.
Matthieu Chambonniere and Maximus Dussault took the doubles title at the storied invitational, which unfolded from Thursday-Sunday at the California Tennis Club in San Francisco.
The duo won four matches en route to the championship. Chambonniere and Dussault breezed to an 8-3 decision vs. Michigan State's Taym Alazmeh and Danial Rakhmatullayev in Sunday's final.
They are the second TCU doubles tandem in as many seasons and in program history to claim the crown. Duncan Chan and Cosme Rolland De Ravel triumphed in 2025.
Chambonniere and Dussault became the fifth and sixth Horned Frogs to win the Battle in the Bay Classic. TCU has now produced the singles or doubles champion in three of the last five years.
Their achievement was the latest installment in a standout start to the fall season for TCU. The Horned Frogs have competed in three ITA-sanctioned events and come home with a championship each time. Roger Pascual captured the ITA All-American Championships singles crown on Sept. 29, giving TCU its first national champion in the discipline. Cooper Woestendick won the Milwaukee Tennis Classic two weeks earlier.
Chambonniere and Dussault established themselves as a pair to watch in the opening round, taking down Arizona's 73rd-ranked Tristan Berard and Zoran Ludoski, 8-4. An 8-2 bulldozing of Saahith Jayaraman and Yannick Alexandrescou (Duke) followed. Chambonniere and Dussault ousted Pepperdine's Gustavo Ribeiro de Almeida and David Fix by a score of 8-5 to set the stage for the championship tilt.
Collectively, TCU finished with a 12-6 combined overall record, a mark that included seven singles victories.
Albert Pedrico was the Horned Frogs' top performer in the discipline. The junior enjoyed a run to the semifinals. Pedrico, the preseason ITA No. 93 singles player, picked up straight set wins at the expense of Andrew Delgado (Georgia) and Paris Pouatcha (Cal) in the round of 16 and quarterfinals.
Perhaps the most celebrated performance internally, though, came from Kaj Quirijns, who joined Pedrico in the last eight. It was the senior's best finish in any tournament. He scored the first ranked victory of his career in the round of 16. Quirijns, a native of Switzerland, battled from a set down for a 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 win vs. No. 107 Ribeiro de Almeida.
TCU has now sent a player to the semifinals or farther at the Battle in the Bay Classic in five straight seasons.
Chambonniere delivered the highest-ranked win of any TCU player, rallying for a 2-6, 6-2, [10-5] defeat of Ludoski, tabbed 67th nationally, in the consolation quarterfinals.
Pedrico and Quirijns upset top-seeded and 56th-ranked Alex Aney and Timofey Stepanov (Cal), 8-2, in the first round of doubles.
Chambonniere and Dussault look the part of a potential pair in TCU's dual doubles lineup. They improved to 9-2 as partners and own two wins over nationally-ranked players.
Quirijns is now 43-17 overall for his career in fall invitationals.
Chambonniere continues to lead TCU in combined overall victories with 16.
