
Horned Frogs Come Up Short in Top-Five Tilt vs. Virginia

FORT WORTH – A top five test in its second match of the season was a bit too much for No. 3 TCU, as the Horned Frogs fell to No. 5 Virginia 6-1 on Thursday.
TCU won the doubles point but was swept in straight sets on courts one through four in singles as the Cavaliers clinched the match. The Horned Frogs utilized four courts instead of the traditional five at the indoor Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center to expand spectator seating. TCU lost at home for the first time in 36 matches. The Frogs' most recent defeat on the purple courts prior to Thursday came all the way back on March 22, 2023.
The match was the 10th all-time between TCU and Virginia, who have won three of the last four NCAA Championships. The Cavaliers lead the all-time series between the storied programs 6-4 and defeated the Frogs for the first time in four tries.
Doubles Rundown
The doubles point is usually razor thin whenever TCU and Virginia cross paths, and Thursday was no different.
Courts one and two each saw tiebreakers. TCU secured the 1-0 head start as the 23rd-ranked tandem of Duncan Chan and Cosme Rolland De Ravel prevailed over No. 87 Jangjun Kim and Keegan Rice, 7-6 (4).
Chan and Rolland De Ravel raced ahead to a 5-1 head start before Rolland De Ravel, the lone senior on TCU's roster, served out the match.
Filip Apltauer and Albert Pedrico put the first point on the board for the Frogs, defeating Andres Santamarta and Douglas Yaffa 6-3 on court three. The TCU tandem secured a decisive break point leading four games to three.
Oliver Bonding and Cooper Woestendick played No. 1 doubles for TCU. The underclassmen duo, who partnered together for the first time, drew the unenviable task of facing 2025 NCAA doubles champions and No. 1-ranked Mans Dahlberg and Dylan Dietrich.
Bonding and Woestendick held steady, ultimately enabling Chan and Rolland De Ravel to land the clinch. They broke back to level the set at 1-1 and alternated games on serve the rest of the way.
Chan and Rolland De Ravel, who won the Battle in the Bay Classic doubles championship in September, improved to 6-0 as partners. The victory over Kim and Rice was their third over a ranked pair.
Apltauer and Pedrico won their second straight match.
TCU won its 16th straight doubles point at home.
The Horned Frogs have claimed 16 of their last 18 doubles points on the indoor courts dating back to the 2024 dual season.
TCU lost a match after winning the doubles point for only the fourth time in the last three seasons.

Woestendick battled Santamarta, the former ITF world junior No. 1, to a first set tiebreaker on set four. Unforced errors and a double fault on serve handed Santamarta a 12-10 victory and one-set lead. He downed Woestendick 6-2 in the second frame.
The victory put TCU behind 3-1. Chan and Bonding came up short on courts one and three. Kim leveled the match with a 6-4, 6-4 decision vs. Bonding while Chan, tabbed sixth in the ITA singles rankings, fell to No. 16 Dietrich 4-6, 5-7.
Rice earned the match-clincher via a 6-4, 7-5 defeat of Rolland De Ravel in a top-50 battle on court two. The 45th-ranked Rolland De Ravel was up a break 3-1 in set two but lost two of his next three service games to Rice.
Pedrico claimed TCU's lone singles set, defeating Dahlberg 6-2 in set one in a battle on court five. Dahlberg claimed the second frame via an identical score and won a 10-point tiebreaker to take the match.
