TCU begins conference play with a shutout victory
FORT WORTH – Behind a shutout performance from Olivia Geller in goal and a Seven Castain goal, the No. 14 TCU women's soccer team edged the Utah Utes, 1-0, on Friday night at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.
THE RUNDOWN
The opening minutes of conference play saw a mixture of back-and-forth action and possession-filled soccer. Each team tallied a handful of chances during the first 20 minutes, but neither team was able to get a goal across to take the early advantage. However, the Horned Frogs (7-1, 1-0 Big 12), were able to break through and strike first.
In the 20th minute, Cameron Patton kicked the ball down to Sydney Becerra in the box who placed a picture-perfect cross near the goal that was headed into the back of the net by an unmarked Seven Castain. TCU would end up holding onto its lead, ending the first 45 minutes at a 1-0 ledger. Even with the scoring advantage heading into the half, the Utes still managed to secure a 7-6 shot advantage heading into the second frame.
The final 45 minutes saw a mostly dominant defensive performance from the Frogs. For the opening 30 minutes of the second half, the Frogs held the Utes to only one shot. While a few chances were compiled for TCU, a second goal did not come of any of them.
The closing minutes of action saw TCU with the ball in Utah's back half, trying to keep the ball away from the Utes and hold onto the lead. The Frogs were able to hold strong in this moment and eventually secure the victory.
Olivia Geller had one of the best performance of her season, playing 90 shutout minutes and having four clutch saves.
QUOTE OF THE GAME
On having alumni back at Garvey-Rosenthal during the 40th season celebration…
"It was awesome. Credit to Ana (Auger-Crossman) and Tom (Serratore) for getting everyone out here. It's an awesome thing to have. It was even better because the guys were here too. We've got men and women who've played here at TCU, and we want them to feel a part of what we're trying to do. It feels as if they want to be a part of that, so that's awesome"

TCU will embark on its first road stint of Big 12 play, heading north to play Kansas State on Thursday, Sept. 25, at 6:30 p.m. and No. 19 Kansas on Sunday, Sept. 28 at 12 p.m.
