No. 9 TCU opens Big 12 play at 4 p.m. on Saturday against Wildcats

FORT WORTH – TCU's quest to defend its Big 12 regular season title begins on Saturday, as the ninth-ranked Horned Frogs host Kansas State in their conference-opener at 4 p.m. at Schollmaier Arena.

Opening Tip

TCU will overtake No. 2 Texas for the longest active home winning streak in college basketball at 34 games with a win over the Wildcats.
Since losing 59-50 at Kansas State on Feb. 5, the Horned Frogs have won 25 of their last 26 ballgames and 10 straight over Big 12 opposition.
TCU is 12-12 all-time and 7-4 at home vs. the Wildcats.
Saturday's game pits the two most successful TCU women's basketball coaches opposite one another. Mark Campbell boasts the highest career win percentage (.807) of any TCU head coach. Jeff Mittie, who helmed the Horned Frogs from 1999-2014, won 303 games and led TCU to nine NCAA Tournaments during his tenure in Fort Worth.
TCU is 5-8 all-time in Big 12 openers. The Horned Frogs have won both of their
conference-openers under Campbell.

Frog Focus

Starting Saturday, TCU begins an 18-game quest to become the first program in Big 12 history to win two league titles within three seasons of finishing in last place.
The Horned Frogs enter Big 12 play as the league's highest-ranked team in The Associated Press poll (No. 9), USA Today Sports Coaches Poll (No. 7) and NCAA NET rankings (No. 8) for the second consecutive season.
TCU will challenge Kansas State as the country's ninth-ranked team in the AP Top 25 for the second straight matchup between the programs.
TCU is one of 12 remaining undefeated Division I teams.
The Horned Frogs earned their 25th consecutive AP Top 20 ranking on Monday.
TCU is 20-9 all-time in Big 12 play as a ranked team, with 16 of the victories belonging to last season's undisputed Big 12 championship team.
TCU's primary starting five of Olivia Miles, Marta Suarez, Donovyn Hunter, Maddie Scherr and Clara Silva is the fifth highest-scoring unit in college basketball at 67.8 points per game. Only South Carolina (75.6 ppg), Oklahoma (73 ppg), UCLA (69.7) and Notre Dame (69 ppg) have higher scoring starting lineups.
In home games, the quintet's scoring average increases to 69.3 points per night.
Suarez (18.7 ppg) and Miles (18.1 ppg) are the highest-scoring duo in the Big 12 and one of just two tandems nationwide averaging at least 18 points per game.
Suarez, Miles and Hunter (14 ppg) are one of only seven teammate trios all averaging at least 14 points per game. At 50.8 points per game combined, they are the nation's fourth-highest scoring trio. Only Western Illinois, Murray State and South Carolina have a higher-scoring trifecta than TCU.
The TCU threesome has combined to score 50-plus in eight of TCU's 12 wins. All three players have reached double figures in nine games. Suarez, Miles and Hunter teamed up for a season-high 63 points in Tuesday's win.
Suarez (.443), Maddie Scherr (.420) and Hunter (.414) are all shooting it better than 40 percent from distance and have knocked down at least 20 threes. They make TCU one of only three teams with multiple players shooting it better than 40 percent from distance with at least 25 threes to their names.
On Tuesday, Miles and Suarez became the first pair of teammates in NCAA history to post a triple-double in the same game vs. a Division I opponent. They are also the first players to record 20-point triple-doubles in the same game at any level of play.
Miles and Suarez's exploits made TCU the first NBA, WNBA or Division I men's or
women's team with four triple-doubles in a three-game span since the Los Angeles Lakers from Dec. 28-31, 2021, when LeBron James and Russell Westbrook posted a quartet.
TCU is the only team in the country with five players on its roster with at least 17 threes to their names; Suarez (31), Hunter (29), Scherr (21), Taylor Bigby (18) and Miles (17).

The Horned Frogs lead Division I in total 3-pointers since 2023-24 with 793.
TCU is averaging 10.4 threes per game at home over the last three seasons
TCU is one of only two programs alongside Richmond ranking in the top-five nationally in 3-point field goals (1st, 785), 3-point field goals per game (4th, 9.6) and 3-point percentage (5th, .374) since 2023-24.
The Horned Frogs continue to top the national rankings in field goal percentage defense (.294) and scoring defense (49 ppg).
TCU is one of only two teams to remain undefeated while holding every opponent below 65 points. The other is Georgia.

Olivia Miles

Is averaging career highs in points per game (18.1), assists per game (7.9) and steals per game (2.2).
Has finished with at least 15 points and five assists in an NCAA record season-opening streak of 12 straight ballgames.
Miles' teams have won 25 straight games when she finished with at least 15 points and five assists.
Ranks second in the country in assists per game.
Leads college basketball in total win shares (4.4) and defensive win shares (1.7).
Became one of only three players in NCAA history to post three straight triple-doubles on Tuesday.

Marta Suarez

Donovyn Hunter

Since TCU's loss at Kansas State in February, Hunter has more than doubled her scoring average. Has tallied an average 10.2 points per game across her last 26 outings compared to 5.2 points per game prior to the Frogs' visit to the Little Apple.
Her shooting percentages have also skyrocketed in the aftermath of TCU's trek to Manhattan. She is connecting at a 49 percent clip from the field and is knocking down 39 percent of her attempts from behind the arc across.
Is averaging 14.9 points per game at home over her last 10 outings inside Schollmaier Arena.
Sports a 3.6 season assist-to-turnover ratio.
Along with Suarez, Hunter is one of only four players in the nation averaging at least 13 points and 2.5 threes per game while connecting above a 50 percent clip from the field and 40 percent from deep.

Maddie Scherr

Tops the Big 12 statistical rankings and is fourth nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio (4.40).
Has produced a 6.4 assist-to-turnover ratio (32-5) over her last seven outings.
Dropped at least five assists for the fourth straight game on Sunday against Jacksonville.
Is averaging five assists per game inside Schollmaier Arena. Only Miles (8.4 apg) has a better assist per game average at home among TCU players.

Clara Silva

Paired a career-high points 21 points on 10-10 shooting with 10 rebounds vs. Jacksonville on Sunday.
Became the first TCU player to finish 10-10 from the field vs. the Dolphins.
One of only two Division I players this season to shoot 100 percent on 10-plus attempts from the field.
Notched her second career double-double against Jacksonville.

Series Notes: Kansas State

Precisely 34 months and two days have passed since TCU and Kansas State collided in Fort Worth. The Horned Frogs and Wildcats were scheduled to do battle on Jan. 20, 2024 at Schollmaier Arena, but the game was cancelled after TCU was forced to forfeit and hold open tryouts due to compounding injuries.
TCU outscored Kansas State 46-34 in the second half in its 75-62 victory over the Wildcats on Feb. 18, 2023. It was the Horned Frogs' lone conference win of the 2022-23 campaign.
TCU and Kansas State were ranked ninth and 12th, respectively, in the AP Top 25 in last season's matchup in the Little Apple. At the time, it was the first top-15 conference game in TCU program history.
The Horned Frogs led 44-43 with seven minutes to go in the fourth quarter of last season's ballgame. Kansas State closed the game with seven unanswered points and held TCU without a field goal over the final 3:58. Serena Sundell scored 23 of her 27 points in the second half to pace the Wildcats.
TCU associate head coach Xavier Lopez got his start in the industry in Manhattan. He served as a graduate assistant on Deb Patterson's staff from 2013-14 before receiving an opportunity to join Oregon's coaching staff the following season, where he and Campbell first crossed paths.
