Horned Frogs suffer first loss of Big 12 play
FORT WORTH – The No. 7 TCU women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the conference slate, dropping a 3-1 decision to Colorado on Thursday night at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.
THE RUNDOWN
The Horned Frogs (9-2, 3-1 Big 12) would come out of the gates firing, totaling 12 shots during the first half. The first 30 minutes of action were in favor of TCU, as the Frogs dominated both the time of possession and the attacking chances.
TCU did take advantage of its numerous opportunities in the first half. In the 16th minute of action, Grace Coppinger fed a ball to Sydney Becerra in the midfield who then passed a beautiful ball in to Emma Yolinsky just inside the Colorado box. Yolinsky cut right then fired a seed that made its way past the Colorado keeper to give the Frogs the early 1-0 advantage.
However, moving into the final 10 minutes of the first frame, Colorado was able to secure the equalizer, and both teams would head into the half at a 1-1 standstill. Advancing forward into the second half, the first 10 minutes of that stanza saw more continuous back-and-forth action. The Frogs posted a 5-1 shot advantage during those minutes, but nothing would come of any of those chances.
Colorado would find answers in the 58th and 65th minutes to increase its lead to 3-1. TCU kept pouring on the shots and offensive chances, tallying 14 shots in the second half to bring the game total to 26, but none would find the back of the net. The closing 20 minutes of game time saw a defensive stronghold built by the Buffs, with the Frogs not being able to find any cracks within the system and decrease the deficit.
Olivia Geller played all 90 minutes in goal for the Frogs.
QUOTE OF THE GAME
Overall thoughts…
"First, congratulations to Colorado. They did a good job and won the game. I have to congratulate them for doing that. As far as I'm concerned, we played some wonderful soccer for big portions of the game and created a lot of chances. I thought their goalkeeper stood on her head and did a fantastic job of keeping them in the game. I think in those moments where they had chances they capitalized and scored. They had nine shots with three of them on goal and they all went in. That's really good. Hats off to them. We have to be better in those situations. We talked about it, and we will be. It's not all doom and gloom. I think that we have to go back to the drawing board and fix some things and hopefully we'll come out Sunday ready to rock and roll."
