Distance Frogs begin postseason racing on Friday
WACO, Texas – A new chapter begins for TCU cross country as the Distance Frogs gear up for their first meet of the postseason, racing at the 2024 Big 12 Championships on Friday, Nov. 1.
Running at the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course, the Frogs will be tested with a 6k race on the women's side, while the men will run the 8k distance. The championship meet will follow the same scoring format with the top five finishers from each school contributing to a team's total score.
With the Big 12 Conference's new additions this year, there will be 14 teams in the mix for the 2024 title. So far this season, the Frogs have competed against Arizona State, Baylor, Colorado (women), Houston and Texas Tech during the regular season.
TCU wrapped up a successful regular season, arguably its best in program history, two weekends ago at the Arturo Barrios Invitational, finishing 11th on the men's side and 20th on the women's side in a field of over 40 teams. Before that, the men had won four straight team titles, and the women had three invitational crowns, sweeping the John McKenzie Invitational, UTA Gerald Richey Invitational and the LA Tech Mook 4 Invitational.
Individually, Tabitha Ngao has three race wins for the women, while Graydon Morris has a pair for the men along with Tate Underwood. Ngao and Underwood also earned national recognition from the conference office earlier this season, being named Big 12 Cross Country Runners of the Week on Sept. 10.
Racing just their second 6k of the season, the women are sitting at No. 14 in the South Central Regional rankings. A young core highlighted by Ngao with three individual wins on the year leads the TCU women alongside sophomore Mckenzie Bailey and freshman Ava Santora. The Frogs' best finish at the conference meet came in their first season in the league when they grabbed fifth overall in 2012.
Ranked No. 8 in the latest regional rankings, the TCU men have their sights set on their best finish since joining the Big 12. The Frogs senior trio of Stone Burke, Noah Winters and Morris anchor the men's squad and are looking to go out with a bang at the conference meet.
