The Horned Frogs 11th Elite 8 appearance ends with a 4-1 loss to Baylor
ORLANDO, Fla. – No. 7 TCU men's tennis (19-8) brought the 2020-21 season to a close on Thursday afternoon, falling to No. 2 Baylor in the NCAA Division 1 Men's Quarterfinals at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
The Horned Frogs battled hard throughout the match but just couldn't come up with the points when they were needed most. The Bears won the doubles point in a tiebreaker on court three, before claiming three singles matches TCU collected its lone point from freshman Tadeas Paroulek at No. 5 singles. He finishes his freshman season with a 4-0 singles record at the NCAA Tournament.
"It sucks to lose, it's the worst feeling ever," head coach David Roditi said. "But at least, we got to compete, and compete in front of the chancellor of our school in the Elite 8, there's a lot to be proud of. I wish we could have gotten a better result for them and for us. Credit to Baylor. They played better today. They have a lot of experience on that team. All fourth or fifth year guys and we couldn't overcome it. I told the guys after our match that there is a lot to be proud of. We had a lot to overcome this year with injuries, COVID and the toughest schedule in the nation, being on the road for most of the year. It was not easy. We asked a lot from them and they delivered, on and off the court. I'm very proud and I hope they're proud of themselves to. We don't lose any starters and we'll hope to get better over the summer and maybe put ourselves in this situation again and get a better result. Today was just not meant to be. I thought Norrie beating Dominic Thiem on clay was a great start to the day but it wasn't meant to be. I want to thank the administration. I want to thank TCU, the doctors and medical staff and logistical staff for a remarkable and challenging job that they've had over this last year or so. It's amazing that we can compete, play and travel like superstars and represent the university while doing what we love to do. Our medical staff put their personal lives on hold for a year and a half just so that we could do this and I'm very grateful for that. I'm very proud to be a Frog. Go Frogs!!"
The Horned Frogs finish the season with a 19-8 record, with all eight losses coming against Top 10 opponents and seven of those eight losses coming away from home.
