Frogs shoot season-best 60 percent in loss
FORT WORTH – RJ Nembhard totaled team highs in points (25), rebounds (7) and assists (7), but the TCU men's basketball team was unable to overcome a double-digit halftime deficit in a 79-70 loss to Providence on Wednesday inside Schollmaier Arena.
Nembhard's 25 points came on a career-high 11 made field goals on 17 attempts, including a 3-of-5 effort from 3-point range.
In his second start of the season, freshman Mike Miles scored 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting. Miles became the first Horned Frog since Kyan Anderson (2011-12) to score at least 20 points in multiple games as a freshman. Kevin Samuel also chipped in 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting for TCU (4-2). David Duke scored a game-high 28 points to lead Providence (4-2).
Providence made 12 of its first 16 shots to jump out to a 28-20 lead. The Friars stretched their lead to as many as 13 with 1:10 remaining in the first half, as the Frogs turned it over six times over the final five minutes of the first half. TCU trailed 43-32 at the break. Miles and Nembhard combined for 26 of TCU's 32 first half points.
The Horned Frogs made their first six shots out of the break and trimmed their deficit to as low as four in the opening minutes of the second half. However, the Friars made nine of 10 shots over an eight minute stretch in the second half to extend their lead to as many as 15.

- The Frogs are now 40-4 against nonconference opponents at Schollmaier Arena under Dixon.
