NCAA B Cuts
Sophomore Janis Silins earned an NCAA B cut in the 100 breast after clocking a 54.10 en route to a first-place finish at Missouri last weekend. The Valmiera, Latvia native owns both breaststroke school records. Last season, Silins' 100 breast time (52.83) at the conference meet broke Ford Story's Big 12 Championship time from 2016. Silins' 200 breast mark (1:54.63) bested former TCU great and Olympian Edgar Crespo's record from 2012 that won a Conference USA title.
Fellow sophomore Piotr Sadlowski also notched an NCAA B cut. The Polish pistol finished the 100 fly in 47.34. During the 2019-20 season, Sadlowski collected two B cuts in the 100 and 200 fly en route to setting the 100 fly school record.
Last Time Out
Both squads competed against Missouri this past Friday, while the women also squared off against Kansas last Saturday. A trio of Horned Frogs displayed impressive TCU debuts against the Tigers.
Arkansas transfer Emma Hultquist nearly took the women's 200 free, placing second by just 0.09 seconds. Her mark (1:48.88) places her fifth in TCU's record book. The Rockwall, Texas native also got second in the 100 free (51.95).
In the men's 1000, freshman Charlie Brennig swam a 9:30.28 which ranks No. 7 on TCU's all-time records.
Fellow freshman Cayla Prophater also broke into TCU's all-times list at No. 9 in the women's 1000, recording a 10:21.75.
The Series
The Mustangs took the crosstown rivalry dual meet last season. The men fell, 171-125, while the women were bested 180.5-119.5. With the Frogs having just one male diver competing, SMU had a diving advantage of 30 points on the men's side. TCU looks to make up some ground in that category with the addition of three freshman male divers this season.
In the 2019 edition of the Iron Skillet, TCU swept the 200 Fly thanks to Sadlowski, Michael Chwaluk and Charles Millette. Izzy Ashdown earned NCAA Zone cuts on both 1- and 3-meter boards, winning 3-meter with a score of 306.90. Faith Harms-Zacharias also collected her third qualifying score of the 2019 season on 1-meter.
TCU's last dual meet victory over SMU came in 2015. The Frogs men's team trailed by 16 points late but before the final event, Tommy Thach put TCU in position to win after securing a first-place finish in the 200 IM as the Frogs bested the Mustangs, 152-148. This completed the trio of three-straight victories against SMU (173.5-126.5 in 2014) (177.5-122.5 in 2013).
