Horned Frogs Score Victory at No. 8 Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. – The TCU women's rifle team defeated No. 8 Nebraska by a score of 4,709-4,686 Saturday afternoon inside the Nebraska Rifle Range.
The Horned Frogs picked up their eighth win of the season behind a strong performance from Casey Lutz. She led the team with an aggregate score of 1,179. Kristen Hemphill placed third overall with a mark of 1,178. Sophomore Abigail Gordon fired a career-high score of 1,176 in the match to finish sixth.
In smallbore, the team shot a score of 2,334. For the 5th time this season, four of the five counters for the Frogs recorded scores over 580 in the match. Lutz led the way with a strong 585. Elizabeth Marsh followed with a score of 584. Hemphill turned in a mark of 583, while freshman Stephanie Grundsoee fired a 582.
Not factoring into the scoring was Gordon's career-high 583, while Catherine Miller posted a 577 to round out action for TCU.
The Frogs posted a mark of 2,375 as a team in air rifle. Hemphill continued her dominance in the discipline with another 595 performance. The sophomore has now fired a score of 595 or better in all but one match this season. Lutz finished her day with a 594, the third-best score of the day. A trio of Frogs shot scores of 593. Grundsoee, Marsh and Gordon all tied for the fourth-highest score in the match.
Nebraska fired a season-high score of 4,686 (2,321 in smallbore and 2,365 in air rifle). The Cornhuskers were paced by Elena Flake, who turned in the top aggregate score in the match. Flake fired a 1,182 that featured a 589 in smallbore and a 593 in air rifle.
The nation's top team returns home for a senior day match against No. 6 Ole Miss on Saturday, February 1.
