Horned Frogs to shoot final home match of the regular season
FORT WORTH – The TCU women's rifle team is set to honor seniors Emily Haag, Rachel Kimbell, Casey Lutz and Catherine Miller when it hosts No. 7 Ole Miss in its final home match of the season this Saturday.
The Horned Frogs enters the match with the No. 2 ranking in the NCAA and the best team aggregate average (4,712.1). The team is coming off their eighth win of the season, as they fired a 4,709 last weekend to top Nebraska on the road. This season, TCU has posted its top three scores at home and is averaging a 4,724.7 inside the TCU Rifle Range.
Kristen Hemphill leads the team and ranks third in the NCAA with a 1,180.1 aggregate average. She is joined by teammates Stephanie Grundsoee (1,179.9) and Lutz (1,174.6) in the top 10. Elizabeth Marsh sits in 11th, just behind Lutz, with a 1,173.6 average.
TCU boasts the top smallbore squad in the nation with a team average of 2,336.4. The Frogs are the only team in the country with three individuals in the top 10 smallbore standings. Grundsoee leads the team and owns the fifth-best mark in the NCAA with a 585.7 average. Marsh ranks seventh with a 585.0 average. She has yet to fire a mark below 583 in smallbore on the season. Hemphill sits less than a point behind her with a 584.8 average on the season.
In air rifle, the Frogs boast a 2,375.7 average, the second-highest in the country, and are led by three of the top six individuals in the NCAA. Hemphill ranks fourth with her 595.3 average. She has fired a mark of 595 in all but one match this season. Grundsoee sits just behind her with a 594.1 average. Lutz rounds out the top six with a 593.9 average mark. Just outside the top 10 is freshman Grace Taschuk. She owns the No. 12 best average in the nation with a 592.2.
This weekend's match will mark the first time that TCU and Ole Miss have competed since the 2017-18 season. The Rebels enter the match with the No. 8 ranking and a season average of 4,669.5 (2,311.9 in smallbore and 2,357.6 in air rifle. They are paced by Abby Buesseler in smallbore (581.9 average) and Claire O'Neel in air rifle (590.3 average).
The match is slated to begin around 8:30 a.m.
