
TCU Sits Second After Smallbore

Frogs are two points behind the leader after Day 1
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The TCU women's rifle team sits second after Day 1 of the NCAA Championships. The Horned Frogs fired a team score of 2,354 in smallbore on Friday, just two behind the match leader, Ole Miss.
In a tightly contested smallbore competition, TCU (2,354) took home the second place finish, topping Nebraska (2,354) in center shots 147-128. Ole Miss led the field of eight with a team score of 2,356. West Virginia (144) and Kentucky (131) are also within striking distance, having fired a 2,353 on Friday. Rounding out the field in sixth place is Navy (2,346) followed by Georgia Southern (2,338) and Alaska Fairbanks (2,334).
Katie Zaun was the lone Frog to qualify for the finals. She finished fifth individually, shooting a 430.3 in the finals.
TCU opened the match with three solid scores in smallbore. Mikole Hogan led the trio with a 590. It's the fourth time this season she has eclipsed the 590 mark. Christina Hillinger fired a 586 followed closely by a 585 from Rylie Passmore.
Two more strong scores followed in the second relay. Zaun shot a 593, tied for the third-best score in the match. In her championship debut, Marissa Fedora fired a 585.
The championships conclude on Saturday with the air rifle portion of the competition. Action gets underway at 7:45 a.m. (CT).
