Frogs suffer largest margin of defeat since 2014
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Facing one of the top defensive teams in the country, TCU fell behind early and dropped its first road game of the season, 81-49, at No. 12 West Virginia, Tuesday at WVU Coliseum.
The Frogs (12-4, 3-1 Big 12) jumped out to an 11-9 lead through the first 8:29 of the game before the Mountaineers scored 14 unanswered points to take a commanding 23-11 lead. West Virginia (14-2, 3-1 Big 12) outshot TCU 58.3 to 35.0 percent in the first half and wound up leading 37-23 at the half.
TCU cut the deficit to single digits twice, the last off of an RJ Nembhard 3-pointer to make it 44-36 with 15:47 remaining. West Virginia continued to shoot the ball well, finishing at 57.7 percent from the field to remain undefeated (8-0) at home.
Facing the physical Mountaineers, the Frogs got into foul trouble in the second half. Sophomore forward Jaedon LeDee fouled out with 11:47 remaining and sophomore center Kevin Samuel picked up his fifth foul with 6:43 on the clock.
Along with shooting just 14-of-44 (31.8 percent) from the field, TCU was outrebounded 24-38. Nembhard led the Frogs in scoring with 14 points to go with six rebounds.
