TCU will travel to Tempe, Ariz., to take on Arizona State and Ohio State this weekend.
FORT WORTH, Texas – The TCU women's tennis team will wrap-up competition for the month by traveling to Tempe, Ariz., to take on Arizona State and Ohio State on Feb. 22 and Feb. 24, respectively.
The Horned Frogs (6-2) will first take on the Sun Devils (5-3) on Friday at 2:30 p.m., CT, before facing the No. 11 ranked Buckeyes (6-2) on Sunday at 11 a.m., CT., with both matches played at the Whiteman Tennis Center.
TCU Notables
TCU is coming off a 4-0 victory at UTRGV last weekend to remain undefeated at home with a 6-0 mark at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. This weekend's matches will be only the second time this season the team has hit the road.
Freshman Mercedes Aristegui continues to lead the Frogs in singles action with 11 wins on the season with a 7-1 mark in dual matches. Fellow freshmen Kate Paulus and Ellie Douglas are also picking up the singles wins in dual matches with Paulus boasting a 6-1 mark and Douglas picking up a win in three of the four matches played. In doubles, Chloe Hule and Stevie Kennedy are pairing up for a team best five wins with three of them coming at the No. 3 spot.
Scouting the Sun Devils
Arizona State won its first three matches of the year with sweeps of UC Davis, Drake and Northern Arizona. The Sun Devils dropped both matches at ITA Kick-Off weekend before bouncing back with wins over Cal State Fullerton (6-1) and San Diego State (5-2). Tereza Kolarova leads Arizona State with four wins in singles action while Lauryn John-Baptiste and Ilze Hattingh are 4-0 in doubles and ranked No. 6 in the Oracle/ITA rankings.
Scouting the Buckeyes
Ohio State is pulling in a No. 11 ranking in the latest Oracle/ITA team poll after starting the season 3-1 and making it to the ITA Team Indoor National Championship. Since returning, the Buckeyes have won two straight matches with sweeps over Ohio foes Cleveland State and Akron. Kolie Allen is ranked No. 48 in the singles poll with an 8-1 mark including a 6-0 record in dual matches. Isabelle Baoulais and Shiori Fukada are also ranked in the singles poll at No. 64 and No. 72, respectively, while the duo pair up for the only doubles ranking of No. 21. The pair are 7-3 overall in doubles action with a 4-1 mark at the No. 1 spot.
All-Time Series
Friday's match will be the fourth meeting all-time between TCU and Arizona State with the Sun Devils holding a perfect 3-0 record in the all-time series. This marks the second straight season the teams have faced off after meeting at a neutral site in 2018 with Arizona State coming away with the 4-1 victory. TCU and the Sun Devils will be facing off in Tempe for only the second time in program history with the only other meeting coming in March 1992 with Arizona State walking away with a 6-0 win.
