Alvarado makes two saves in the shootout
KANSAS CITY – TCU connected on all four of its penalty kicks and Texas missed on three kicks, two of which were stopped by Emily Alvarado as the Horned Frogs advanced to the semifinals of the Big 12 Championships. The game officially ended in a 0-0 tie. Alvarado made four stops in regulation for her seventh shutout of the season.
The Rundown
TCU carried the bulk of the play and had the better of the chances for much of the game, but couldn't solve Texas goalkeeper Savannah Madden. who made nine saves in regulation. The Horned Frog defense limited Texas to just four shots on goal, three of which were from distance.
After weathering an early storm from Texas, TCU turned the tables and went on the attack. Messiah Bright fired five shots on goal in the first half, all from dangerous angles, but each time, Madden was there to knock the ball away.
Despite 18 combined shots in the second half, only four managed to find their way on net. Each keeper made two saves in the frame. Both teams hit a crossbar late in the second half. Texas' Haley Berg found the crossbar with five minutes to go. Three minutes later, Bright saw her shot skip off the crossbar.
Texas carried the play in the first overtime and TCU the second overtime. In all, the Frogs outshot the Longhorns 4-2 in the overtimes.
In penalty kicks, Texas shot first. The Longhorns connected on their first shot, which was matched by a successful attempt from Yazmeen Ryan. Alvarado made stops on Emma Jett and Cyera Hintzen, while Atu Mshana hit the post on her attempt. Grace Collins and Maddy Warren converted their kicks and TCU won the shootout by a 3-1 score.

11 – Messiah Bright recorded 11 shots against Texas, the most by an individual in a single Big 12 Soccer Championship match since 2004.

"We created a lot of chances, especially in the first half. Unfortunately we weren't able to score through the run of play. The PKs are always a crapshoot. I thought we deserved to win the game, but I'm happy that we were able to advance to next weekend."

"She was a beast today. I guess, depending on how things go, I'm going to start calling her Miss. November. She was in attack mode from minute one and it was nice to watch. Hopefully she can continue this level of play."
