
Frogs Fire Multiple Program Records in Victory

TCU posts the sixth best score in NCAA history
FORT WORTH – The top-ranked TCU women's rifle team saw eight career-best performances as it fired a 4,732, a new program record and the sixth-best mark in NCAA history, in a dominant victory over UTEP.
The Horned Frogs shot a score of 2,347 as a team in smallbore, the seventh best mark in program history and top score in the country this season. Stephanie Grundsoee led the way firing a 592, tying assistant coach and TCU rifle alum Hannah Black for the seventh best individual mark in school history and the top score in the NCAA this year.
The record breaking performances continued as the Frogs tied the top air rifle mark in program history with a 2,385. It was also the top score in the nation this season. Casey Lutz tied the 14th best score in TCU history with a 598 in air rifle.
"I could not be more impressed with the scores posted today," said head Coach Karen Monez. "A great team score for the team…very proud of how they performed. Every match they go in with the mindset that they want to fire a score that is capable of winning. Putting in that extra effort on the practice line is making the difference in their individual performances."
Overall, Grundsoee paced the team for the fourth consecutive match. She finished with a career-high score of 1,188, which is tied for the best score in the nation this season. Her mark was tied for the ninth best in program history with TCU greats Mindy Miles (2/17/17 vs Air Force) and Sarah Scherer (11/12/11 vs Jacksonville St.). Kristen Hemphill turned in an impressive 1,182, just a point above Lutz who fired a 1,181. Elizabeth Marsh also had a strong day as the junior posted a mark of 1,179. Senior Emily Haag and sophomore Taylor Haffner each fired new career-high aggregate scores in the match. Haag shot a 1,160 and Haffner finished with a 1,168.
TCU got off to a dominating start in smallbore, boasting the top seven individual performers. Grundsoee fired a 592 and Hemphill followed, tying her career-high, with a score of 587. Marsh continued her consistent shooting, firing a 585 for the third time in her last four matches. Senior Casey Lutz finished fourth, with a season-best mark of 583 to round out the counting scores.
Not factoring into the team score was Taylor Haffner, who posted a career-high score of 583 in smallbore.
In air rifle, the Frogs turned in the top 10 individual performers. Lutz finished with a 598, firing four perfect strings of 10. The freshman duo of Grundsoee and Taschuk posted identical scores of 596. The mark was a career high for Taschuk and tied Grundsoee's best performance. Hemphill fired a 595 and Marsh finished with a 594 to round out the counters.
UTEP fired an aggregate score of 4,581 (2,274 in smallbore and 2,307 in air rifle). Amoret McCartney paced the Miners in smallbore with a 575 while Jonna Warnken led with a 579 in air rifle.
Next weekend, No. 1 TCU travels to Murray, Ky. to take on No. 14 Murray State.
