Hemphill ties career-high smallbore mark
Murray, Ky. – An aggregate performance of 1,181 from Kristen Hemphill propelled the top-ranked TCU rifle team to a 4,702-4,666 victory against No. 10 Murray State Saturday afternoon in Kentucky.
The Horned Frogs shot a score of 2,333 in smallbore behind Hemphill who fired a 587, tying career-high for the second straight week. Elizabeth Marsh posted the second best score of the day for TCU, shooting a 583. Casey Lutz and Stephanie Grundsoee rounded out the scoring for the counters with marks of 582 and 581, respectively.
In air rifle, TCU totaled a 2,369, as Hemphill once again paced the field and team. The sophomore turned in a score of 594. Four Frogs were able to top the mark of 590, with Lutz and Grundsoee each firing a 592 and Grace Taschuk recording a 591.
The top four aggregate scores all belonged to TCU. Hemphill turned in the top score with a 1,181, her third straight week over 1,180. Lutz finished second with a mark of 1,174. Just a point behind her was Grundsoee, who turned in a score of 1,173. Marsh also finished with a 1,172.
Murray State fired an aggregate score of 4,666 (2,314 in smallbore and 2,352 in air rifle). Shelby Huber led the Racers with an aggregate score of 1,172. Anna Scheer led Murray State in air rifle with a score of 590.
No. 1 TCU will be back in action next weekend as it hosts No. 12 Memphis and No. 14 Nebraska at the TCU Rifle Range Saturday, Nov. 16.
