FORT WORTH –A pair of second half goals helped TCU erase a 1-0 halftime deficit as the Horned Frogs rallied for a 2-1 victory over No. 24 BYU Friday night at Garvey-Rosenthal. The win is TCU's first-ever NCAA Tournament victory.
The Rundown
Out of halftime, facing a 1-0 deficit, TCU went on the attack and the pressure paid off with goals on a back-to-back shot attempts. Messiah Bright got the equalizer in the 56thminute. Karitas Tomasdottir sent a pass through a pair of defenders right to the foot of Bright. She pulled the goalkeeper out of position with a touch and was able to bury the game-tying goal.
Just under five minutes later, an individual effort from Yazmeen Ryan put the Frogs in front, 2-1. She intercepted a pass between defenders at the top of the 18 and ripped a shot past the diving goalkeeper.
Emily Alvarado stood tall in net as she faced a furious attack from BYU as it tried to get the game-tying goal. She made a trio of saves in the final 30 minutes and faced seven total shots in the half.
BYU opened up the scoring in the 23rdminute on a goal from Elise Flake. Her shot from inside the 18 clanged off the post and into the goal to put the Cougars on top 1-0.
