Frogs Drop First Match of the Season

TCU falls to WVU; 4,703-4,678
FORT WORTH – The No. 3- ranked TCU Horned Frogs dropped their first match of the season Saturday afternoon to No. 2 West Virginia by a score of 4,703-4,678.
TCU shot a team score of 4,678 (2,310 in smallbore and 2,368 in air rifle). Despite the defeat, the Frogs still managed to top the Mountaineers in the air rifle discipline by a score of 2,368-2,366.
The Frogs competed without their top marksman Rachel Garner as she was participating in Mexico at the Championship of the Americas.
The freshman led the way for TCU on the aggregate leaderboard. Angeline Henry turned in the top aggregate score for the Frogs, shooting a career-high score of 1,171 to place fourth. Abby Gordon had a nice return to the range after not participating in the last two matches. She finished sixth overall with a career-high mark of 1,169. Kristen Hemphill and junior Casey Lutz both fired aggregate scores of 1,167.
Hemphill led the Frogs in smallbore shooting a score of 581 and placing fourth. Henry followed with a score of 579. Sophomore Elizabeth Marsh fired a score of 578, good for sixth. Rounding out the TCU counters were Catherine Miller (572) and Lutz (570).
Not factoring into the team score, Gordon shot a career-high 576 in smallbore.
In air rifle, TCU continued their success with three of the top six scores. Lutz led the field as she fired a season-high mark of 597 for the third time this season. Gordon wrapped up her impressive day with a fourth-place finish and a score of 593. Henry turned in a 592, good for sixth.
The WVU squad finished with a score of 4,703 (2,337 in smallbore and 2,366 in air rifle). In smallbore they were paced by defending NCAA Champion Morgan Phillips, who fired a mark of 591. Millica Babic paced the Mountaineers in air rifle with a score of 596.
TCU returns to the range on Friday to host No. 6 Alaska.
