Frogs shoot top eight aggregate scores
FORT WORTH – The 3rd- ranked TCU Horned Frogs shot the top eight aggregate scores in their victory over the VMI men's and women's squads, extending their regular-season winning streak to 12 matches.
The Frogs led the field the entire match, shooting a team score of 4,706. In smallbore, TCU shot its second-best mark of the season (2,332) and had another strong outing in air rifle (2,374).
It was all TCU on the aggregate score leaderboard. Rachel Garner paced all shooters for the fourth time this season with a 1,186. Garner has now fired four of the top seven marks in the NCAA this season. Elizabeth Marsh posted a 1,181, the 11th best score in the nation this year. Casey Lutz placed third with 1,175. Freshmen Kristen Hemphill (1,164) and Angeline Henry (1,162) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Rounding out the top eight were Catherine Miller (1,159), Noelle Christensen (1,147) and Rachel Kimbell (1,142).
The Frogs dominated smallbore with the top eight marks. Marsh tied her career-high with a 589 that included a perfect 200 prone to lead the way. Garner followed with a strong score of 587. Lutz fired a 582 to take third, while Miller finished fourth with a score of 574. Hemphill placed fifth shooting a 572.
TCU also turned in the top eight air rifle scores. Garner led the way shooting a 597, while Lutz took second with a score of 593. Marsh followed in third with a 592. Hemphill tied her career-high mark of 592, shooting three perfect strings of 10. Henry fired a score of 590, good for fifth place.
Not factoring in the team score, Kimbell shot a season-high 574 in air rifle.
The VMI men's squad finished second shooting a score of 4,502 (2,243 in smallbore and 2,259 in air rifle) followed by the VMI women's squad with a 4,293 (2,084 in smallbore and 2,209 in air rifle). The VMI men were led by John Pitman who fired a 1,133 (565 in smallbore and 568 in air rifle) and the women were paced by Kelia Aardema with an aggregate score of 1,117 (556 in smallbore and 561 in air rifle).
TCU will have a week off before hosting the No. 2 West Virginia Mountaineers on Nov. 10 at the TCU Rifle Range.
