Rifle Claims PRC Championship

FORT WORTH – Day 2 of the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships was as hotly contested as Day 1, but again, it was TCU that came out the victors as the Horned Frogs claimed their first-ever PRC Championship.
TCU won its championship by the narrowest of margins, topping Alaska by a mere three shots, 4,690-4,687. Along the way, TCU took home its second straight air rifle championship in a tiebreaker. Both TCU and Ohio State fired a team score of 2,364, but the Horned Frogs won with 174 center shots as compared to the Buckeyes' 164.
Three of TCU's top four shooters fired a 590 or better in the qualifier. Hannah Black qualified for first in the final, shooting a 594 with 48 center shots. Mindy Miles was right behind her as she fired a 593 highlighted by 47 center shots. Sally Li finished 11th after shooting a 590 and Nicole Hankey turned in a 587.
Black and Miles represented TCU in the finals. It was Miles who triumphed, winning the individual championship with a score of 205.5, edging Alaska's Luke Johnson by 1.1 points. Black fired a 100.6 to finish seventh overall.
Sunday capped a thrilling weekend for the women's rifle team as it took home the team titles in both disciplines en route to the conference title. The championship improves TCU to 11-0 on the season.
TCU hits the road next weekend for a match at UTEP on Feb. 13. It'll be the final tune up for the Horned Frogs before the postseason quest begins on Feb. 20 with the NCAA Qualifier set to be held at the TCU Rifle Range.
