FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 21 TCU women's tennis team got its second shut out in Big 12 action with a 4-0 defeat of No. 36 Texas at the Weller Indoor Tennis Center in Austin, Texas.
The Horned Frogs (10-5, 3-0) improved to double-digits in the win column with the victory over the Longhorns (4-8, 1-2) and remain undefeated in conference action on the road.
"This win ranks up there with our victories over Texas A&M and Duke earlier this year," head coach Lee Taylor Walker said. "This was only the second match Texas has played with their full roster and they have a quality top 15-20 team when they are healthy. Their ranking does not accurately reflect their level today. We had to bring our best stuff today and everyone did from top to bottom in singles and doubles. I'm so proud of the resilience and courage our girls had in pressure situations.
"Last weekend we won two matches and I wasn't sure if we were improving, but these past few days we had some very focused training sessions and it clearly showed today. We are improving and it's so encouraging to see. There are many things we can improve on still, but that process will never end. What's most important is for our girls to continue enjoying playing and making the most of their time and opportunities."
The doubles portion of the match opened with TCU taking the win on court three, as Simona Parajova and Sofiko Kadzhaya downed Ratnika Batra and Pippa Horn for the pairs sixth straight win of the season.
Texas did not go down without a fight, as they took the win on court two leaving the doubles point decision to court one. The No. 39 ranked duo of Seda Arantekin and Stefanie Tan were put to the test by Breaunna Addison and Danielle Wagland, as the match decision would come down to a tiebreaker. The TCU pair had the finishing power, as they won the tiebreaker, 7-5, to win the doubles point for the Frogs and post their seventh straight doubles win.
TCU pushed their lead to 2-0 in singles action, as No. 41 Parajova secured her team-leading 18th win of the season and 10th at No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 6-4 defeat of Ryann Foster. After dropping her first set, Arantekin stormed back to take the next two sets, 6-0, 6-4 to steal a win on court five for the sophomore's 15th win of the season.
Freshman Palina Dubavets would clinch the match for TCU with 6-2, 6-3 victory of her own at No. 4 singles for her 15th win of the season and sixth in dual matches.
Before the match was called, Tan was leading No. 49 Addison at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 5-3.
"Seda showed so much maturity in her match today and it's great to see her confidence continue to build," Walker said. "Stefanie Tan was as special as I've ever seen her today. She played a great opponent and rose to the occasion. She overcame a lot of competitive fears today and it means so much to our overall team and direction, regardless of whether she was able to complete the match or not. She is heading in such a positive direction and it's huge for our team."
TCU will continue league action on the road, as the Frogs travel to Waco, Texas to take on No. 6 Baylor on Sunday, March 22 at 3 p.m., at the Hurd Tennis Center. The team will then return home to the friendly confines of the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center to host UAB on Monday, March 23 at 5:30 p.m.
