FORT WORTH, Texas - Snapping a six-match winning streak, the No. 21 TCU women's tennis team fell in its first Big 12 Conference match of the season with a 4-1 loss to No. 6 Baylor on Sunday in Waco, Texas.
The Horned Frogs (10-6, 3-1) were able to pick up two wins in doubles action to snag the point, but the Bears (16-4, 3-0) proved why they are highly ranked by storming back to take four singles matches in straight sets to steal the team win.
"It was a great college tennis match with a lot of back and forth momentum swings," head coach Lee Taylor Walker said. "They got us today, but I think it was a step in the right direction overall. I just feel like we are learning a lot right now and it's a great time of growth for our team.
"Stefanie (Tan) and Seda (Arantekin) pulled off two huge doubles wins this weekend. They have proved that they are legitimately one of the best tandems in the country. I'm just really proud of the effort and development of this team. It's so much fun to be around them."
Baylor put the first win on the board in doubles action by taking the victory on court two, but TCU was leading on the final two courts and pulled out two big victories to seal the doubles point for the Frogs.
Simona Parajova and Sofiko Kadzhaya picked up their seventh straight win, 10th overall this season and stayed perfect with a 7-0 record at No. 3 doubles with a 6-3 win over Kiah Generette and Theresa Van Zyl.
The No. 38 pair of Tan and Arantekin grabbed their biggest win of the season and clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory over No. 10 Ema Burgic and Blair Shankle. It was the pair's 15th win of the season, 10th on court one and fourth over a ranked opponent this season.
In singles action, Baylor swung the momentum their way and notched victories on the bottom half of the lineup at positions three through six to steal the match victory from the Frogs.
TCU will have a short turnaround and will return home to face UAB on Monday, March 23 at 5:30 p.m., at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
