FORT WORTH, Texas - Playing inside at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center, the No. 18 TCU men's tennis team shut out Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday night, 7-0, to open its three-match home stand.
The Horned Frogs (12-5) shut out their third straight opponent in the Ragin' Cajuns (9-9), while the team remains undefeated at home with a 7-0 record.
"I thought the doubles point set the tone for the match," head coach David Roditi said. "Cameron (Norrie) and Trevor (Johnson) got us a quick win in doubles and we needed one more team to step up. Will (Stein) and Nick (Chappell) did just that at the No. 1 position and then we got five quick first sets to continue that momentum.
"Trevor played beautifully. He works hard and deserves all of his success. Tomorrow will be a long and tough day with two ranked opponents as a double header. Whether we play inside or outside, we will be ready."
The No. 23 duo of Norrie and Johnson gave TCU the first win of the night, as the pair recorded their 10th victory of the season with a 6-2 downing of Jake Wynan and Will Huyton. The Cajuns would even up the score with a win of their own on court three to send the doubles point decision to court one.
Up 6-5 at the No. 1 position, the No. 29 pair of Chappell and Stein were at deuce with the opportunity to break Edgar Lopez and Damian Farinola, as Stein sent a clean winner down the line to clinch the doubles point for TCU. The duo now has 19 wins on the season and seven on court one.
Johnson got TCU up to a 2-0 lead with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 victory on court five, before NO. 116 Guillermo Nuñez pushed the lead to 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-4 win of his own at the No. 2 position. Nuñez has now won 16 straight matches, as he and Johnson are tied for the team lead in singles wins with 19.
Stein would clinch the match for the Frogs, as the senior notched a first set win of 6-2 on court four, before Huyton fought back to take the second set, 6-2. Stein found himself trailing 3-0 in the final set, before storming back to win the next six games to take the match and seal the victory for TCU.
TCU was not done winning, as Arnau Dachs stepped up and posted his 15th win of the season with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles. No. 39 Chappell followed suit with a 6-3, 6-4 defeat of his own on court one over Jake Wynan.
Trey Daniel would be the final competitor for the Frogs, with the sophomore picking up his 12th win of the season with a 6-0, 6-2 take down of Vlad Kramarov.
TCU will be back in action tomorrow at the tennis center, as the Frogs host No. 46 Dartmouth at 1 p.m., and No. 63 UT Arlington at 5 p.m.
