FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 27 TCU women's tennis team concluded its first Big 12 Conference road trip of the season with a 4-1 victory over No. 70 Kansas on Sunday in Lawrence, Kan., at the Jayhawk Tennis Center
The Horned Frogs (9-5, 2-0) fought off a battle from the Jayhawks (4-8, 0-2) in doubles, before claiming three of the next four singles matches to get the conference victory and stay undefeated in league action.
"The result of getting two conference road wins is nice, with one being over a ranked opponent," head coach Lee Taylor Walker said. "We are all happy about that for sure. However, in order to be the best we can this year we need a total team effort each and every point from every single player and this weekend, we didn't have that. The majority of our team did give effort, but not everyone and we will need everyone these next two weeks.
"We have a great opportunity with two senior leaders that have a lot of experience. Our younger girls need to realize the unique opportunity this gives them and take advantage of it before Stefanie (Tan) and Simona (Parajova) graduate. I'm hopeful our whole team and staff will send out Stef and Simi in a very special way, but we have to crank it up this week."
Sofiko Kadzhaya and Parajova got TCU started off with a win in the match, as the duo blanked Summer Collins and Alexis Czapinski, 6-0, at No. 3 doubles. Kansas responded by taking a win on court two, with the doubles point coming down to the decision on court one.
No. 38 Seda Arantekin and Tan completed the doubles point for the Frogs by claiming a 6-3 victory for the duo's sixth straight win this season and 13th overall.
In singles action, No. 41 Parajova shut down her opponent from the start and only allowed Maria Jose Cardona to take one game in the match, as the senior from Slovakia posted a 6-1, 6-0 win for her 17th win of the season and fourth straight to put the Frogs up 2-0.
Alexis Pereira followed and gave TCU a 3-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles over Collins for her 15th win of the season.
The Jayhawks would pick up their only point in the match with a win at No. 4 singles, before Arantekin clinched the match for the Frogs with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Rachel McNeely at No. 5 singles.
TCU will continue action on the road and will face Texas on March 20 in Austin, Texas at 2 p.m., and then will travel to Baylor in Waco, Texas on March 22, for a 3 p.m., matchup.
