TCU Drops Match to No. 5 Cal

FORT WORTH, Texas - Coming off its biggest win in program history, the No. 20 TCU women's tennis team could not continue its winning streak and dropped its quarterfinal match of the 2015 ITA National Team Indoor Championships, 4-1, to No. 5 Cal on Saturday night in Charlottesville, Va.
The Horned Frogs (4-2) were leading in matches in doubles and singles action against the Bears (4-0), but could not finish all of their matches and ultimately dropped the match.
"It is really tough one to analyze. On one side, it is extremely disappointing because we were in control in all the doubles and lost that point and we also had leads in many of the singles matches. It was a match that we could have taken for sure, so it hurts," coach Lee Taylor Walker said.
"On the other hand, we are in position with another top-10 team and fighting hard with good attitudes. We are learning that we belong here and have lots we can improve and grow from. Tomorrow's match is all about character and fitness. Three matches against three top teams three days in a row is tough, but I like our chances with the way the girls are carrying themselves right now. We will try out best and have fun."
In doubles action, TCU was the first team to nab a victory with the freshman duo of Alexis Pereira and Palina Dubavets knocking out Karla Popovic and Cecilia Estlander, 6-3. The pair now have a team-leading 12 wins on the season and are 5-1 at No. 3 doubles.
The Frogs were leading on court one with Stefanie Tan and Seda Arantekin up 5-3 over No. 4 Maegen Manasse and Denise Starr. The pair could not hold on and dropped the next four games and fell 7-5. Cal completed the doubles point just moments later with a win at No. 2 doubles and went up 1-0 in the match.
Simona Parajova tied up the match for TCU in singles action by defeating her fourth ranked opponent in a row and moved to 5-0 in singles action with a 6-3, 6-1 upset victory over No. 78 Klara Fabikova. Parajova is now 13-2 on the season and has beaten four ranked opponents this season.
Cal did not stay down for long and grabbed victories on courts one, five and three to complete the team match victory.
TCU moves in the consolation matches of the indoor championships and will face No. 10 Virginia tomorrow at 2:30 p.m., CST, at the Boars Head Tennis Club.
