Women's Tennis Suffers Loss to UCLA

FORT WORTH, Texas - Down one player in the match, the No. 17 TCU women's tennis team put up a fight, but fell short to No. 4 UCLA, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon in Los Angeles, Calif., at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
The Horned Frogs (4-4) were facing their fifth ranked opponent in a row in the match against the Bruins (6-1) and were able to pick up one singles win despite being down one player in the match.
TCU began the match down in the doubles point after having to default at No.3 doubles, leaving the Frogs with the task of having to win at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to take the point. The team fought valiantly and was leading on court two, but UCLA took the match on court one to claim the doubles point and take the early 1-0 lead in the match.
Early into singles, the Bruins took a 2-0 lead after Simona Parajova was forced to retire in her match at No. 2 singles and UCLA quickly made it 3-0 after Terri Fleming defeated Seda Arantekin at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-2.
The lone victory of the day came for freshman Alexis Pereira, who picked up her 11th singles win of the season by defeating Kelly Shaffer on court six, 6-4, 6-3.
The one point would be all that TCU would get in the match as No. 9 Chanelle Van Nguyen defeated No. 76 Stefanie Tan, 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 singles to clinch the match for UCLA.
The Frogs will continue their trip in California by traveling to Malibu to face No. 30 Pepperdine on Monday, Feb. 16 at 3 p.m., CST.
