The Opponent
Washington comes into Tuesday night with a 5-2 overall record after dropping Cal State Fullerton in its last outing, 87-69. Against the Titans, the Huskies were carried by Andrew Andrews who tallied a double-double with 15 points and 10 boards. Dejounte Murray added 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting, while Matisse Thybulle scored 16 points on 6-of-7 from the field.
On the season, Washington, who started four freshmen Monday night, has been carried by Andrews. The senior is averaging 20.7 points per game and 8.0 rebounds a contest.
The Series
The two teams will meet for only the second time in program history Tuesday night. TCU leads the all-time at 1-0 after dropping the Huskies in 1941, 40-34.
Growing Up In Seattle
TCU head coach Trent Johnson is very familiar with Seattle as he was raised in the area and graduated from Franklin High School. He played high school ball with current Rainier Beach boys basketball head coach Mike Bethea, who is playing Franklin High Tuesday. Johnson had four family members graduate from the University of Washington in Terrance (brother), Arno (brother), Tanya (sister) and Tammra (sister).
A Long Line Of Success
TCU head coach Trent Johnson has a long history of competition versus Washington, dating all the way back to his freshman season at Boise State in 1974-75. Overall, Johnson has gone 11-6 against the Huskies either as a player, assistant or head coach, including 3-4 overall in Seattle.
Next Man Up
Against Colgate, TCU only dressed nine student-athletes, including only eight scholarship players, as starting guard Chauncey Collins along with returning starters Kenrich Williams and Chris Washburn all sat out the contest. Collins is a game-time decision for Tuesday night's game, while Williams and Washburn, who were named captains along with Karviar Shepherd prior to the start of the season, are both out for the time being with injuries.
A Rebounding Machine
With his 11-board outing versus Colgate, Karviar Shepherd grabbed double-digit rebounds for a second-straight game, having corralled 11 against SMU to open the month. He has only posted back-to-back outings of 10 or more boards four times in his career.
Cashing In On Opportunities
TCU shot a blistering 50.8 percent from the field against Colgate, which marked the second time in the last three games that the Horned Frogs have shot 50 percent or better. Against Illinois State, the Frogs went 27-of-53 (.509) from the floor. TCU has now shot 50 percent or better eight times in the last two years.
Filling Up The Stat Sheet
Sophomore Vladimir Brodziansky has had quite the impact early on this season. The sophomore has scored in double-figures in six out of the seven contests, while recording one double-double. He led TCU with a 19-point outing against Colgate on 7-of-10 from the field. So far this season against the four teams that made post-season a year ago, the Slovakian native is averaging 13.3 points per game and 7.0 boards a contest. He is also shooting almost 60 percent from the field.
Comparing The Two
A trend has become apparent in TCU's seven games this season. In the four wins, the Horned Frogs have gotten to the line 112 times, while shooting 73 percent from the charity stripe. In the three losses, TCU has only attempted 59 free throws, connecting on 71 percent of them. The Purple and White have also shared the rock better in the four wins, tallying 29 more assists in games won.
