Post-Game Quotes
West Virginia 78, TCU 67
Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center
Attendance: 4,918
TCU senior guard Trey Zeigler
On the difference between the first and second halves
"The first half we came out with a lot of energy. The second half, they came back with a lot of energy. We only had eight turnovers in the first half, but they sped us up in the second half. They kept coming, and you have to handle it to be able to beat them."
On TCU's expectations going into the game
"We expected to be in the game. We're a good team and so are they. We knew it would be a good game, but we couldn't close it out."
On why they lost
"We didn't do the tough things to win like rebounding, taking care of the ball and defending. We know that if we would've, we would've won this game."
TCU Head Coach Trent Johnson
On the game as a whole
"What I told them prior to the game when news broke that (Juwan) Staten wasn't going to play was that this game just got a lot tougher because obviously they are talented and deep. In Corpus Christi, when Kyan (Anderson) was out, our guys stepped up and that's what they did. When they hit us in the face in the second half, we lost our poise and we started to get testy with one another. We forgot about playing basketball and making plays."
On conference play against higher caliber teams
"When you play good teams with good people, you're going to be forced out of your comfort zone, and it was good for us that it happened early and often. I thought Trey (Ziegler) and Kyan (Anderson) did an exceptional job taking care of the ball."
WVU Head Coach Bob Huggins:
On their full court press
"We had a little bit better ball pressure [in the second half]. It's the cumulative effect. It wears on you."
On the difference between TCU's team last year and this year
"They're worlds different. That's what having better players and more players does. Trent can coach. He's been the coach of the year in many different leagues and won everywhere he's been. None of us are very good without players."
