FORT WORTH - Several team and individual season-highs allowed TCU to get wins over Nevada and Jacksonville State on Saturday and Sunday in Fort Worth. It was also the team's last fall home match.
The Horned Frogs' 4690 was enough to edge the Gamecocks by 11 points, while the Wolf Pack ended with 4,602. TCU, in a triangular match with Jacksonville State and Murray State last week, fell by one point to the Gamecocks.
TCU had the top three aggregate shooters from any of the three schools. Sally Li's 1,176 was the standard-bearer, while Mindy Miles and Hannah Black trailed with personal-bests of 1,175 and 1,174, respectively.
The air rifle portion saw TCU tie for its eighth-best team score in school history with 2,364. The team's previous season-high was 2,356, set in each of the first three matches of the year. Ariana Grabowski's 585 was a personal-best, and she also improved her score in that discipline for the fourth consecutive match.
Li had a season-high 592, and Black's 593 was the third time in five outings she hit that mark. Miles tied for the team-lead with her own 593.
Smallbore saw more superlatives from the Horned Frogs, whose season-high 2,326 marked the fifth consecutive match improvement. Li's 584 trailed only Jacksonville State's Samantha Bullard's 587. Miles (582) and Bridges (579) set and tied a personal-best, respectively. Bridges also shot a 579 last week, and had raised her smallbore average in every match this season.
Bullard's 1,172 in both disciplines was fourth in the match but led all non-Horned Frogs.
TCU head across the state on Sunday for its next match when it competes at UTEP. The Horned Frogs' next home tilt will be Jan. 17 when Air Force and Coast Guard come to town.
