
TCU Falters In 3-1 Loss To Central Arkansas

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (21-25, 19-25, 25-22, 14-25) decision to Central Arkansas Saturday afternoon. Meghan Horio tallied her third straight double-double, finishing with 28 assists and 12 digs. Kay Linn Connolly notched a career-high 23 digs in the loss.Irene Hester tallied a team-high 12 kills and led the team with three aces in the match. Christy Hudson finished with eight kills, eight assists and 11 digs. Kristen Hester pitched in with nine kills and led the team with five blocks.
Central Arkansas raced out to an early 6-1 lead before the Frogs finally got things going. Irene Hester served the Frogs back into the set with a 4-0 run. She aided the cause with a kill and an ace, while Horio pitched in with a kill to pull the Frogs within one, 6-5. The Frog rally continued and eventually saw them grab a 12-11 lead thanks to a Sugar Bear attack error.
With the set tied at 13, the Sugar Bears went on a devastating 9-0 run to open up a commanding 21-14 lead. Again, Irene Hester did her best to get the Frogs back in the set with a kill and back-to-back aces. Sloane Sunstrum pitched in a kill and Hannah Fort served up another ace. A block from Hudson and Kristen Hester made it a three-point contest, but a Chloe Smith kill locked up the 25-21 victory for Central Arkansas.
A similar start to the second set saw the Frogs staring at a large deficit. Just like the first set, the Frogs were able to climb back into the set with a furious 8-3 rally that made it a 10-all contest. Blocks from Horio, Emily Kirby and Kristen Hester highlighted the run and a kill from Irene Hester tied the set.
With the set tied a 12, the Sugar Bears used a 7-3 run to open up a 19-15 lead. A denial in the middle by Raines and Kristen Hester made it a 20-16 game, but the Frogs wouldn't get any closer as Smith again closed out a set with a kill and the Sugar Bears claimed the commanding 2-0 match lead with a 25-19 win.
TCU forced a fourth set with a solid effort in game three. The Frogs and the Sugar Bears kept the set close through the first 19 points with Central Arkansas holding a 10-9. Irene Hester halted a 3-0 run by the Sugar Bears and Raines served the Frogs to a 15-14 lead. Kristen Hester was huge in the run with two kills.
A service error by the Sugar Bears put the ball in Horio's hand behind the service line. Helped along by a kill from Hudson and a series of miscues from Central Arkansas, the Frogs pushed their lead to 22-17. Hudson gave the Frogs set point and finished off the 25-22 victory with her fourth kill of the set.
The teams battled through another close set in the fourth as the Frogs tried to get the match tied at two. Irene Hester gave the Frogs a 6-5 lead only to see Central Arkansa put together a 5-2 rally to regain a 10-8 lead. Kills from Kristen Hester and Hudson kept the deficit manageable but a 10-1 run by the Sugar Bears put the set out of reach as the Frogs fell 25-14.
TCU falls to 3-3 on the season. The Frogs return to action on Tuesday night in Waco. Match time against Baylor is set for 7 p.m.
