TCU HEAD COACH Jeff Mittie
On his team's performance
"It is obvious that this is a very good win for us. I think they are a very good team and we are very fortunate to play as well as we played tonight. I think the key for us was that we rebounded the ball so well and we handled their press. Even with 20 turnovers, we wanted them to be aggressive turnovers and not ones in the back court. If we are going to turn it over, let's turn it over being aggressive. That is where our 20 turnovers occurred. I would like to see it around 17 or 18 against that press, but certainly we were able to get something out of attacking tonight."
On his team's ability to adjust to the full-court press
"I think some of that was that we were more aggressive. I thought Antoinette (Thompson) had a rough start against it. She seemed to settle into the rhythm of the press and was able to have some success against it. We were more decisive with the ball later in the game. We do not see it often. It is hard to simulate in practice, so the first 10 minutes serves as your practice to get used to the tempo."
On the second half run that put the game away
"I thought we rebounded really well. There were numerous shot clock violations in that stretch. I thought our defense was outstanding. We did a great job on (BYU guard) Haley Hall. I don't think she had an open look all night. She had some tough ones. It was as good as I have seen our team defense play this year."
TCU JUNIOR GUARD Emily Carter
On her ability to reach the free-throw line
"That was our game plan from the beginning, for all of us to be aggressive. We also had a height advantage at the guard position which let us get into the post more. I think that led to more kick-outs in the second half. I was trying to be aggressive from the beginning and draw fouls to frustrate their players and get them in foul trouble, too."
On getting used to working against the press
"We just needed a little bit to get used to where their players were going. We had to read their defense, and once we did, we were able to get up the floor and had numbers."
