The Horned Frogs will be looking for their fourth win over Texas Southern. TSU is coached by former Frog assistant Yolanda Wells-Broughton.
Senior Helena Sverrisdottir graduated earlier this month in three-and-a-half years with a degree in communications.
Helena Sverrisdottir needs only two more assists to move into No. 2 all-time in school history in career assists. The senior just moved into No. 3 all-time in scoring in program history with 1,450 points.
FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU women's basketball team will continue its holiday schedule Thursday against Texas Southern. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. inside Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
The Horned Frogs bring a 6-6 record into Thursday's tilt between the two Texas schools. The Frogs, who are 5-1 at home this season, will look to bounce back from a tough loss to Georgia their last time out.
In its last outing, TCU fired back to take a five-point lead in the second half, but it wasn't enough as Georgia's Anne Marie Armstrong nailed a three from 28-feet out in the closing seconds to give the Lady Bulldogs a 60-57 victory over the Horned Frogs last Wednesday night.
The Purple and White will open the new year on Sunday, Jan. 2 against nationally ranked Oklahoma. Start time is set for 5:00 p.m.
A Look Back At The Georgia Contest
Georgia's Anne Marie Armstrong's three in the closing seconds helped UGA snap TCU's 27-game home winning streak last week, which coming into the game ranked No. 3 in the NCAA. The Horned Frogs last loss at home came on Jan. 13, 2009 to BYU.
Emily Carter led three Frogs in double figures, scoring 18 points on 6-of-18 shooting from the floor. Carter netted 16 of her 18 points in the second half of play. Helena Sverrisdottir posted 14 points, while Starr Crawford, who saw her first action in three games, recorded 10 points.
Overall, the Horned Frogs turned up the defensive pressure last Wednesday night, limiting Georgia, who is receiving votes in both national polls, to only 34.4 percent from the floor, including 15.4 percent from behind the arc in the second half.
With TCU up 57-55 with a minute left to play, Georgia tied the game at 57-57 on a fast break lay-up by Armstrong. Armstrong's trey with 3 seconds left on the clock gave UGA its first lead in 8 minutes of play.
The All-Time Series
TCU and Texas Southern will be meeting for only the fourth time in program history Thursday. The Horned Frogs, who have won all three meeting's against the Tigers, dominated TSU last season, recording an 85-55 victory over Texas Southern.
Last season, five Frogs scored in double figures to help TCU down the Tigers by 30 points. TCU shot 42.9 percent from the field for the game and turned the ball over only 13 times. The Frogs also held a 46-35 rebounding advantage, which included 21 offensive boards.
Emily Carter and Helena Sverrisdottir shared top scoring honors for TCU with 12 points each. Carter drilled 3-of-4 attempts from behind the arc, including shots on consecutive second-half possessions.
Breaking Down Texas Southern
The Tigers bring a 2-8 record into tonight's contest and will be looking for their first road win of the season. TSU is coming off an 84-81 overtime loss at Texas State last Tuesday. It was the Tigers' first overtime game of the season. Senior Gabrielle Rosiji scored a season-high 24 points, while fellow senior NaDosha Strickland scored 20 points in San Marcos.
Tonight's game marks the return to Fort Worth for TSU head coach Yolanda Wells-Broughton, who was an assistant with the Horned Frogs from 2004-07. Wells-Broughton is in her third year as head coach of TSU.
Overall, Texas Southern, who is currently on a six-game road swing, has been led by Strickland for the majority of the non-conference schedule. Strickland has averaged 14.4 points per game, while Rosiji has chipped in with 11 points per game.
Bouncing Back The Right Way
Following its last three games against 2010 NCAA Tournament teams, TCU has done a nice job of bouncing back, going 3-0 in its next game. Overall, the Frogs have outscored their opponents during that time, 244-172.
Closing The Month of December
When the Horned Frogs take on Texas Southern Thursday night, they will look to continue an impressive trend under head coach Jeff Mittie. In its final game during the month of December, TCU is 9-2 since the 1999-2000 season. The Frogs' only losses came during the 2000-01 and 2008-09 seasons by Alabama and SMU, respectively.
Giving Back During The Holidays
The TCU women's basketball program recently got into the holiday spirit, delivering presents to a local family. The Horned Frogs opened the day teaming up with Neighbor Helping Neighbor to deliver presents and TCU goodie bags to area families and elderly throughout the Metroplex.
The Frogs delivered presents, which included a new bed, clothing, a Christmas tree, toys and much more, to a local family in the surrounding area. The holiday gift drive was planned, bought and organized by players, coaches and support staff of the TCU women's basketball program.

Frogs Back On The Tube
When TCU takes on Oklahoma Sunday it will mark the second time this season the Purple and White will play on national television. The Frogs have fared quite nicely during television games the last two season's, going 14-8 during regular-season play. Last season, TCU went an impressive 10-2 when playing in front of a national audience during regular-season action.
Horned Frogs Continue To Impress In NCAA
Through the winter break, the Frogs have done quite nicely among the nation's best. TCU ranks No. 24 overall in 3-point field goal percentage (.373). The Horned Frogs also moved into the top 45 in scoring offense, ranking No. 42 overall after an impressive showing against SHSU. Finally, TCU sits No. 38 nationally in free-throw percentage (.739).
Individually, Emily Carter paces the Frogs', ranking No. 11 overall in scoring average with a 21.7 average. Fellow senior Helena Sverrisdottir sits No. 52 in points per game, while averaging 17.7 points. Carter also ranks No. 23 in free throw percentage (90.6) and in the top-30 in 3-point field goal percentage (.444) and attempts per game (2.9).
TCU In The Mountain West Conference
12 games into the season, the Horned Frogs lead the conference in scoring offense (72.3), free throw percentage (.747), field goal percentage defense (.347), defensive rebounds (28.9) and 3-point field goal percentage (.364). The Frogs also sit No. 3 in scoring margin (+9.6), turnover margin (+0.83), assist/turnover ratio (0.9) and 3-point field goals made (7.3).
Individually, Emily Carter leads the conference in scoring average (21.4) and free throw percentage (.910). She also ranks in the top 2 in three-point field goals made (34). Helena Sverrisdottir currently sits No. 5 in scoring (17.4) in the conference. Sophomore DeLisa Gross is also among the league leaders in field goal percentage with a .506 average through 12 games. Finally, sophomore Starr Crawford ranks No. 4 in rebounding (9.3), No. 2 in offensive rebounds (3.1) and No. 4 in defensive rebounds (6.2).
