Too Tuff to Handle
TCU sophomore Ronnie "Tuffy" Moss originally signed with Kent State, but was granted his release and signed with the Frogs after Christian was announced as the new head men's basketball coach in the Spring of 2008.
Moss posted a career-high 26 points on 9-of-17 shooting, including five three-pointers, to go along with six assists, five rebounds, two steals and one blocked shot in 32 minutes of action in TCU's 74-69 victory over Mid-America Christian. The TCU sophomore became the first player since Junior Blount in 2002 to post 25 or more points in the season opener.
The TCU sophomore is averaging 16.5 points per game and has posted a double-digit scoring performance in nine of 10 games this season. In addition, Moss has recorded three 20-plus scoring performances and ranks fifth in the Mountain West Conference and 147th in the country in scoring average (16.5 P-G).
Moss is also tied for third in the country in assists per game (6.8 A-G) with Larry Drew II from North Carolina. The TCU sophomore is behind Siena's Ronald Moore (8.0 A-G) and Kentucky's John Wall (7.1 A-G). Moss is ranked first in the Mountain West Conference in assists per game (6.8 A-G) and is a full assist ahead of BYU's Jimmer Fredette, who is averaging 5.8 assists per game. Moss has dished out at least five assists in all 10 games this season.
The Fort Worth standout posted his first career double-double in a triple overtime victory over Texas State after collecting 18 points and 12 assists. Moss became the first TCU player to post a double-double in points and assists since Corey Santee notched 20 points and 12 assists on Nov. 28, 2001 against Southwest Texas State (now known as Texas State).
Moss is also coming up on a scoring milestone as the TCU sophomore needs only 29 points to reach the 500-point mark for his career. The 6-2 guard has established himself as one of the top players in the conference as he ranks first in assists per game (6.8 A-G) and minutes played (35.0 MP-G), third in three-pointers (2.4 3FGM-G) and eighth in three-point percentage (.393).
Buljan Ranked Among League's Best
Senior Zvonko Buljan became the first player in program history to earn Preseason First Team All-Mountain West Conference accolades as voted on by the coaches and media. In addition, Buljan was selected as a Preseason First Team All-Mountain West Conference award winner by two publications in CBS Sportsline and Blue Ribbon Basketball Yearbook.
The TCU forward has posted four double-doubles this season, including a 22-point and 16-rebound performance in the Frogs' season opener against Mid-America Christian. In the first game of the Preseason NIT, Buljan posted his second straight double-double with a 14-point and career-high 17-rebound effort against Cal State Northridge.
Buljan is currently ranked 21st in the country and first in the Mountain West Conference in rebounds per game (10.0 R-G). In addition, the 6-9 forward is ranked first in the conference in defensive rebounds per game (7.2 R-G) and sixth in offensive rebounds per game (2.8 R-G). The TCU senior has recorded at least six rebounds in all 10 games this season.
Through 10 games this season, Buljan is the only player in the Mountain West Conference averaging a double-double at 15.9 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. Ranked as the 21st-best international player in the country last season by The Sporting News, Buljan is only one of 29 players in the country averaging a double-double during the 2009-10 campaign.
The TCU senior posted a scoring milestone in the second half of the Frogs' game against 23rd-ranked Texas Tech when he collected his 500th career point. In 41 career games with the Frogs, Buljan is averaging 13.2 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.
Buljan has recorded eight double-digit scoring performances this season, including three 20-plus scoring efforts. The TCU senior collected a career-high 29 points on 11-of-16 shooting, including four three-pointers, on the road at Wichita State. In back-to-back games, Buljan notched career-highs in scoring against Texas Tech (24 points) then Wichita State (29 points).
Buljan became the first player in the Mountain West Conference this season to reach 100 rebounds on the season. The TCU forward is the only player in the conference to have 150 points and 100 rebounds on the season.
Hail to the Chief
Upon capturing the Northeastern Prep School Championship at Bridgton Academy, Ronnie Moss and Greg Hill took a tour of the White House in Washington, D.C. Even though President George W. Bush was unable to meet with the team during their visit, Moss and Hill were able to get their picture taken with an up-and-coming Senator from Illinois named Barack Obama.
Century Milestone
The Frogs scored 108 points in a triple overtime victory over Texas State on Nov. 24, 2009, which marked the first time that TCU has surpassed the 100-point milestone since Jan. 4, 2003. In that game, the Frogs scored 102 points against Centenary. In addition, this is also the first time that TCU has scored 108 points in a game since Jan. 5, 2002, against South Florida.
Scoring Tops
Currently, the Frogs are the only team in the Mountain West Conference to have three players ranked in the top-10 in scoring average in Moss (5th | 16.5 P-G), Buljan (7th | 15.9 P-G) and Ruzgas (9th | 13.9 P-G).
As a team, the Frogs are ranked fifth in the Mountain West Conference in scoring average (72.8 P-G).
The Butler Did It!
Kevin Butler is currently ranked first in the Mountain West Conference in offensive rebounds per game (3.8 R-G) and 11th in rebounds per game (5.8 R-G). The Duncanville, Texas, native is also ranked second on the team in rebounds per game and has recorded at least five rebounds on five occasions.
The 6-4 forward recorded his first career double-double in a triple overtime victory over Texas State where Butler finished with a career-high 13 points and 11 rebounds. Butler also posted a career-highs in that game in minutes played (42), field goals made (5), field goal attempts (9), rebounds (11) and points (13).
Butler has recorded 58 total rebounds this season with 38 of them coming on the offensive glass. In addition, Butler has recorded 11 rebounds on two occasions (Mid-America Christian | Texas State) and has finished with at least six points and six rebounds in four of 10 games this season.
This season, Butler is averaging 26.8 minutes per game (up from 17.3 minutes a season ago) and ranks fourth on the team in court time. The 6-4 forward has seen action in at least 20 minutes in eight of 10 games this season and has posted at least 30 minutes on four occasions.
King of the Hill
Greg Hill scored a career-high 17 points, including four three-pointers and 5-of-6 shooting at the free throw line, in 31 minutes of action against Wichita State. The TCU junior has recorded three double-digit scoring performances this season after scoring 11 points against both Nebraska and Texas State.
In his first season with the program, Hill is ranked fourth on the team in total points (68) and scoring average (6.8) and has posted at least five points in seven of 10 games. In addition, Hill is ranked fourth on the team in three-point field goals made (7) and three-point field goal attempts (38) and has connected on at least one three-pointer in seven of 10 games.
Hill is averaging 21.2 minutes per game - which leads all TCU newcomers - and ranks fifth on the team this season. The Gary, Indiana, natvie has seen action in at least 20 minutes in seven of 10 games, including a career-high 31 minutes on two occasions (Texas State | Wichita State).
The Green Mile
In his first season with the Frogs, Garlon Green has recorded three double-digit scoring performances, including a career-high 18 points in 29 minutes of action against Texas State. In the triple overtime victory over the Bobcats, Green connected on 10-of-14 attempts from the free throw line to go along with eight rebounds and one assist.
The 6-7 freshman made his first collegiate start against SMU as part of the State Farm DFW Duel where he saw action in 14 minutes in a victory over the Mustangs. Green currently ranks first on the team in free throw percentage (.759), third in free throws made (22) and free throw attempts (29) and fifth in scoring average (5.5 P-G).
Green posted 10 points, including 4-of-4 at the free throw, to go along with four rebounds and one blocked shot against 23rd-ranked Texas Tech. In the team's first 10 games, Green has collected at least eight points on four occasions. In his collegiate debut, the TCU freshman finished with eight points, five rebounds and two blocked shots versus Mid-America Christian.
"X" Marks the Spot
Xavier Roberson has appeared in all 10 games this season where the TCU newcomer is averaging 6.2 minutes per game. The 6-2 point guard posted a career-high six points on two occasions (Cal State Northridge | Colgate) and four points against 23rd-ranked Texas Tech. In addition, Roberson is averaging 2.2 points, 0.7 assists, 0.6 rebounds and 0.4 steals per game in his first season with the Frogs.
He's Seen it Hall
TCU Director of Sports Medicine Chris Hall has spent 27 seasons on the bench for the Frogs, including 25 seasons as their full-time athletic trainer and two seasons as a student trainer. During his time, the Frogs have posted a 447-385 overall record.
