The Butler Did It!
Kevin Butler is currently ranked first in the Mountain West Conference in offensive rebounds per game (4.29 R-G) and 10th in rebounds per game (6.3 R-G). In addition, Butler is ranked sixth in blocked shots per game (1.0 B-G) and 10th in minutes played per game (29.43 MP-G).
The 6-4 forward recorded his first career double-double in a triple overtime victory over Texas State where Butler finished with a career-high 13 points and 11 rebounds. Butler also posted a career-highs in that game in minutes played (42), field goals made (5), field goal attempts (9), rebounds (11) and points (13).
Butler has recorded 44 total rebounds this season with 30 of them coming on the offensive glass. In addition, Butler has recorded 11 rebounds on two occasions (Mid-America Christian | Texas State) and has finished with at least six points and six rebounds in four of seven games this season.
The TCU sophomore has started all seven games for the Frogs this season where he is ranked second on the team in rebounds (6.3 R-G) and sixth in scoring average (5.9 P-G). Last season, Butler averaged 17.3 minutes per game and has increased those minutes to 20.4 this season, including six games of 20 or more minutes.
King of the Hill
Greg Hill has increased his production with each passing game as the TCU newcomer is ranked fourth on the team in scoring average (6.9 P-G). The TCU guard has scored 11 points in two of the last four games (Nebraska | Texas State) and has notched seven points in a trio of games (Mid-America Christian | Colgate | Louisiana Tech).
This season, Hill is currently ranked fifth on the team in minutes played per game (22.4 MP-G) - which leads all TCU newcomers. In addition, the Gary, Indiana, native has seen action in at least 20 minutes in six of seven games where he has scored at least five points in every one of those games.
Over the last three games, Hill has connected on 52.9 percent (9-of-17) of his field goal attempts. At Daniel-Meyer Coliseum, Hill is averaging 8.0 points per game. On the road this season, Hill is averaging 5.3 points per game - including a season-high 11 points against Nebraska.
The Green Mile
Garlon Green posted the best game of his young TCU career after collecting a career-high 18 points, including 10-of-14 from the free throw line, to go along with eight rebounds in 29 minutes of action against Texas State. Over the last four games, the TCU newcomer has seen action in at least 20 minutes on three occasions and has posted double figures in two of those contests.
The 6-7 freshman is currently ranked fourth on the team in scoring average (6.0 P-G) and ranks second on the team in free throws made (17), free throw attempts (24) and free throw percentage (.708). In addition, Green is ranked third on the team in rebounds (3.6 R-G) and posted at least five rebounds in three of seven games this season.
Green was the first player to sign a National Letter of Intent for the Frogs last season. The 6-7 forward was ranked as one of the players coming out of the Houston area and was ranked as the 12th-best player in the State of Texas by TexasHoops.com following his senior campaign.
MWC-MVC Challenge Series
The Mountain West Conference and Missouri Valley Conference will begin its inaugural Challenge Series between the two leagues during the 2009-10 campaign. The agreement between the two conference is a four-year deal, and nine Challenge Series games will be played each season with each conference hosting a total of 18 games during the period.
The match-ups for the first season of the MWC-MVC Challenge Series are based in part on 2008-09 pre-season rankings and on RPI rankings from the previous season (or RPI rankings from the preceding three-year period).
The Baker's Dozen
Sophomore Logan Lancon is just one of 13 student-athletes majoring in engineering at TCU. The 6-6 forward was selected as an Academic All-Mountain West Conference during the 2008-09 season. This season, Lancon has appeared in four games where he is averaging 4.3 minutes per evening.
"X" Marks the Spot
Xavier Roberson has appeared in all seven games for the Frogs this season where the TCU freshman is averaging 2.4 points per game and has posted a career-high six points on two occasions (Cal State Northridge | Colgate). Roberson is averaging 7.1 minutes per game and has seen action in at least 10 minutes in three of seven games this season.
