POSTGAME QUOTES
TCU 65, San Diego State 62
Fort Worth, Texas (Daniel-Meyer Coliseum)
Jan. 28, 2009
Head Coach Jeff Mittie
On his team's hustle:
"I think (Micaela) Younger gave us a spark and Antoinette Thompson gave us some hustle plays. It became infectious and we saw hustle plays from a number of players. We have to get those kind of plays to be good."
On the comeback:
"I think there was a point in that game where it could have gone the other way. Our players kept battling back and got it to a manageable number at half. Then they came out with a run to start the second half. We missed some key plays, but we finally got over the hump and finally turned it around."
On the TCU's resilience:
"It goes both ways. They couldn't make a key basket to get away from us. Our players were more active in the second half, and we were disrupting their rhythm better. I thought that was a big key."
Junior guard TK LaFleur
On TCU's defensive effort:
"I think our defense tonight was what helped us get back in this game and eventually take the lead."
On the effect of TCU's defense on San Diego State:
"I think they were getting frustrated. Having a big lead and having it disappear will frustrate a team. That helped us be more aggressive on defense."
Sophomore guard Emily Carter
On TCU turning its defense into offense:
"When we got on the hustle plays on defense it allowed our offense to get some fast break points and get some three point shots."
After TCU's defensive adjustments in the second half:
"I think we got a lot more aggressive all around. It slowed (the Aztecs) down and they got frustrated. That is what turned the game around for us."
