FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU freshman defensive specialist Megan Munce has been named Co-Mountain West Conference Player of the Week. The honor is the first of her career and the second for the Horned Frogs this season.
Munce, a 5-8 freshman from Costa Mesa, Calif., set a Mountain West Conference record with 12 service aces in TCU's 3-0 sweep of Air Force last Friday. Her 12 aces trumps the previous conference mark of nine set by San Diego State's Robyn Gregg on October 18, 2002.
She had 11 aces in the first set alone, which included a stretch of five straight. Also in the first set, Munce served 18 consecutive points, which is tied for second most in NCAA history and is the highest mark nationally in a match since November 11, 2006. Altogether, her 12 aces is tied for 11th all-time for three-set matches nationally and tied for 12th in overall matches in NCAA history.
Munce also had one kill, six digs and four assists vs. Air Force.
Devon Kirk was named conference Co-Player of the Week on Sept. 22. Munce shared the honor with Utah's Lori Baird.
