Wyoming charged out to a big lead in game one and never looked back as they took the early match advantage. The Cowgirls took a 15-8 lead on an Angie Hellbaum kill and kept building on their lead, watching it grow to nine at 20-11.
Trying to build momentum for game two, the Horned Frog offense caught fire in the latter half of the game. A solo block from Kourtney Edwards made it 27-20, but despite the loud block, the Cowgirls took the game on a Jenna Arneson kill.
TCU quickly fell behind in game two, 6-2, but a 7-2 run by the Frogs gave them a lead they would never relinquish, despite 10 ties in the set. With the score tied at seven, Christy Hudson blasted the ball from the outside to give the Frogs the lead.
The game was back-and-forth until the Frogs were finally able to role out to a five-point advantage, 24-19, on a Cowgirl attack error. Wyoming would battle back to tie the game at 25, but a costly service error kept the Frogs in control. Back-to-back kills from Nirelle Hampton gave the Frogs set point, but the Cowgirls put together a 3-0 run to tie the game at 29.
Devon Kirk and Hudson gave the Frogs their second set point with a ringing block on a Rachel Smith attack and Hudson finished it with her fourth kill of the set.
Out of the intermission, the Frogs took control of the match as they sailed to the 30-22 game three win. TCU stormed out to a 10-3 lead highlighted by a triple block from Kirk, Lauren Otto and Hampton.
The Frogs kept in control of the set, building their lead to 11 points on a kill from Kourtney Edwards. Wyoming put together a little rally to get back within seven, 27-20, but another ringing block, this time from LeMeita Smith and Kirk, killed the rally. Smith and Edwards finished the game for the Frogs with the fourth block of the set.
Game four played out much the same way as game three with the Frogs taking the early lead and never looking back. Back-to-back blasts on the outside from Otto made it a 7-2 contest.
The lead continued to grow with help from kills by Hudson, Edwards and Irene Hester. Another triple block in the middle by the Frogs pushed the Frog advantage to 23-17. With Smith behind the service line, she served the Frogs to match point and Hester finished it with a kill to the back of the court, securing the 30-20 win.
Hampton notched her fifth double-double of the season with 38 assists and 12 digs. Her three aces gave her 127 for her career. Corley paced the team defensively with 23 digs, giving her 1,116 for her career and moving her into sole possession of third place. Loren Barry also moved up the charts to fifth place with 22 digs in the match. She now has 1,023 for her career.
The Frogs (14-2, 1-1 MWC) will host Air Force Friday night at the University Rec Center. Match time is slated for 7 p.m.
