Horned Frogs fall in Provo, 2-0

PROVO, Utah - TCU dropped a 2-0 heartbreaking loss to BYU Wednesday night to end its season in the opening round of the Mountain West Conference Tournament.
In the first half, TCU and BYU battled to a scoreless draw with both teams missing opportunities to find the back of the net. Overall, four different Horned Frogs posted shot attempts for the half, including one early by sophomore Lizzy Karoly that was stopped by BYU goalkeeper Erika Woodbury.
In the 41st minute, Chelsea Cody looked to put TCU on the board off an assist from Jackie Torda, but watched as her shot from inside the box sailed high of the net.
Finally, Lauren Pope looked to break the 0-0 tie late in the half, but had her shot blocked by a Cougar defender inside the box.
Kelsey Walters had a solid first half in goal, stopping four shots, including one midway through the half off a rocket by Cougar Whitney Feller to post the shutout.
Torda cruised the length of the field coming out of the halftime break, but watched as her shot sailed wide of the posts.
It looked as if Michelle Nguyen was going to break the tie early in the half off an assist from Karoly, but had her shot from outside the box saved by Woodbury.
BYU's Katie Larkin broke the scoreless match in the 65th minute, heading a ball past Walters off an assist from Carolyn Swenson.
Angie Nickens tried to tie the match up with 14 minutes remaining from 25 yards out, but had her shot saved by Woodbury. Finally, Karoly took a shot from inside the box with 5 minutes remaining, but had her shot sail wide after beating the Cougar defense.
Nguyen took a shot with 2 minutes remaining from 30 yards out, but has her shot saved by Southwick.
Swenson netted an insurance goal late in the match to give BYU the 2-0 conference tournament victory.
With the loss, TCU ended its season at 8-11-0, while the Cougars improved to 15-3-2.
Karoly teamed with Torda to lead the Horned Frog attack with two shots apiece, while Walters had a solid night between the posts, saving seven shots. Woodbury posted three saves on the day and faced pressure all night from the TCU attack.
The loss marked the final match for seniors Angie Nickens, KJ Brozena, Lesley Parkinson and Lauren Pope.
