TCU rally falls short versus Air Force

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Antoine Hood tied a season-high with 23 points while Jacob Burtschi added 16 to lead Air Force to a 63-45 victory over TCU tonight at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas.The Horned Frogs hit the road for their next two games, Saturday at San Diego State and next Wednesday at Colorado State. TCU's next home game is Feb. 25 versus BYU. Tip-off is 7 p.m. Central.
Air Force continues on the road Saturday at Utah.
Burtschi added a team-best seven rebounds for the Falcons, who held a 31-25 edge on the boards.
Judson Stubbs topped the Frogs with 11 points and seven rebounds. Brent Hackett hit three 3-pointers for nine points. Neiman Owens had five assists to tie a season-high and be one shy of a career-best total.
The Falcons (20-5, 8-4) entered the game leading the Mountain West Conference in scoring defense, allowing just 54.3 points per contest.
TCU opened the game with a 7-4 advantage before Air Force responded with a 31-10 run over the final 14:35 of the first half to lead 35-17 at the intermission.
The Falcons hit 51.9 percent of their field-goal attempts in the opening 20 minutes compared to 27.3 for the Frogs (5-20, 1-10). TCU shot 47.6 percent in the second half to finish at 37.2 for the game. Air Force was at 50.0.
After trailing by as many as 21 points, TCU trimmed the deficit to 51-38 on a Chudi Chinweze jumper with 7:17 to play. Air Force responded by scoring the next nine points to pull away.
The Frogs' final points of the contest came on a 3-pointer by freshman Rob Staky, his first collegiate field goal.
The Falcons had 42 points in the paint to 16 for the Frogs.
