Four Score and Many Years Ago
TCU is looking to improve to 4-1 for the first time since the 1998-99 campaign.
The Horned Frogs have been 4-1 or better through five games just three times in the past 14 seasons dating back to 1992-93.
Getting the Close Ones
The Horned Frogs have picked up a pair of six-point wins and an eight-point double-overtime victory already this season, making them 3-0 in games determined by 10 points or less.
The Frogs went just 3-13 (.188) in games decided by 10 or less last year.
In the first three seasons under Neil Dougherty, the Frogs were 21-24 (.467) in those games (8-6 in 2004-05; 7-9 in 2003-04; 6-9 in 2002-03).
Nineteen of the team's last 35 games (54 percent) have been decided by 10 or fewer points.
Local Flavor
TCU is playing its second of three games this year against schools from Louisiana.
Of the Horned Frogs' 13 nonconference games, TCU has six against programs in the state of Texas. In addition, five more are versus schools from neighboring states (Louisiana-3, Oklahoma-1 and Arkansas-1).
The only nonleague games against schools from nonbordering states are against St. Mary's and Colorado.
Home Sweet Home
TCU is 379-224 (.629) in 603 home games since Daniel-Meyer Coliseum opened in 1961.
Over the past 10-plus seasons, the Horned Frogs are 119-49 (.708) in DMC and have won at least 10 home games seven times over that span.
The Horned Frogs are riding a four-game home winning streak dating back to last year's win over Utah.
New Balance
Of TCU's 281 points on the year, 154 (or 55 percent) have been courtesy of the newcomers while 127 have come from veterans.
Three Frogs, two newcomers (Kevin Langford and Ryan Wall) and one returnee (Brent Hackett), are averaging double figures in points.
Four Frogs, two newcomers (Kevin Langford and Alvardo Parker) and two veterans (Blake Adams and Neiman Owens), are averaging better than 5.0 rebounds per contest.
Nine players, five veterans and four newcomers, are playing at least 15 minutes per game.
The Horned Frogs Against the Tigers
TCU and Grambling State have met on seven previous occasions, with the Horned Frogs winning each time.
This is the fifth straight season and the sixth time in the last eight years that the teams have played.
Neil Dougherty is 4-0 against the Tigers, winning by an average of 19.3 points per game.
The Horned Frogs have scored an average of 94.8 points per contest over the past four meetings.
TCU is 16-1 all time against Southwestern Athletic Conference schools.
Stealing the Show
TCU ranks first in the Mountain West in steals per game (11.0).
The Horned Frogs' closest competitor is UNLV at 9.0.
Individually, Neiman Owens ranks second in the MWC at 2.3 steals per game, while Ryan Wall is tied for fourth (2.0) and Keion Mitchem is tied for eighth (1.8).
Finding Nemo
Junior guard Neiman Owens scored a career-high 14 points on perfect 6-of-6 shooting from the floor against St. Mary's.
He also added a team-best seven rebounds in the contest.
At just 6-foot-3, Owens leads the team in boards at 6.5 per game, a figure that ranks eighth in the Mountain West.
He has averaged 9.0 points and 8.0 rebounds over the last two games.
