FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU Women's Rifle team will host the 15th annual Horned Frog Invitational this weekend at the TCU rifle range. The team will compete in both air rifle and smallbore against shooters from Nevada, Texas-El Paso, Texas A&M, and the New Mexico Military Institute. The tournament is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and last through Sunday afternoon."It is great to be able to host this competition and bring in some of the top teams in the country," head coach Karen Monez said. "It gives us a chance to showcase our program and facilities."
The two events, air rifle and smallbore, will consist of a 60-shot course of fire. All 60 shots in air rifle will be shot from the standing position while the course for smallbore will be evenly divided into three different positions, standing, kneeling, and prone.
For air rifle, the Frogs will be divided into two competition teams of four shooters, Purple and White. The remainder of the team will compete individually. The Purple squad will consist of Celeste Green, Tanya Gorin, Emily Conway, and Nikki LeCompte while Kristine Tisinger, Aida Garcia, Erin Lemmons, and Alicia Davis will comprise the White squad. Only four shooters, Green, Gorin, Conway, and LeCompte, will compete in smallbore.
"I expect the quality of the competition to raise the performance of our shooters," Monez said. "This tournament will provide us with a baseline from which we will build on the rest of the year."
Last year, TCU placed third in both events behind UTEP and Nevada. Conway finished as the team's top shooter with scores of 565 in air rifle and 547 in smallbore.
