FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU volleyball team hosts San Diego State on Friday night and UNLV on Saturday afternoon. Prior to the Friday matchup with San Diego State, the Horned Frogs will recognize seniors Erin Estep and Hayley Harmon as they play in their final matches at the University Rec Center.
TCU is coming off a weekend slate where the team faced New Mexico on Friday, Nov. 4 and Air Force on Sunday, Nov. 6.
Sophomore Talaya Whitfield led the Frogs versus New Mexico, tallying 10 kills and nine digs falling just one dig short of her sixth double-double of the season. Freshman Devon Kirk also contributed big for the Frogs with nine kills, tying her career-best.
After catching a flight to Fort Collins, Colo., the Purple and White hit the courts with the Air Force Falcons. Sophomore LeMeita Smith and Kirk led the team with seven kills apiece.
SDSU comes into the weekend with a record of 14-12 and 6-7 in Mountain West Conference play after dropping a Wednesday night contest to UNLV. Melanie Greene led San Diego State with 14 kills while teammates Audra Dent and Lindsey Noll added 13 and 12 respectively. The loss is the fourth-straight suffered at the hands of the Rebels.
UNLV now holds a 13-12 overall record and 9-4 conference mark. Michelle Banks and Melody Nua registered double-doubles in the match. The Rebels currently sit at third place in the conference standings.
The Frogs currently hold the eighth spot in the conference and two big wins over the weekend could bolt them into better position before heading into the conference tournament in two weeks.
Friday action is slated for a 7 p.m. start and Saturday's contest will begin at 4 p.m.
