OXFORD, OHIO (Sept. 1) -- The TCU volleyball team opened its 2000 season in the Miami Justballs.com Classic, falling to the host team Miami University (Ohio) in five games. The loss marked the first time in three years the Horned Frogs dropped their season opener.
It looked as if the Horned Frogs were going to shutout the Redhawks after taking game one 15-11 and game two 15-7. The Frogs jumped out to a 3-0 lead in game three before the Redhawks went on an 8-1 scoring run and won the final three games.
"We played the best volleyball I have ever seen TCU play, but we were unsuccessful in getting the win," said head coach Sandy Troudt. "I was really proud of our blocking and outside hitters."
TCU set a team record with 19 blocks, breaking the old record set against Sam Houston State on August 30, 1997. Junior, Allison Lynch recorded three block solos and six block assists. While on the offensive side of the ball, senior Amy Atamanczuk set a career high with 23 kills, while hitting a team high .283. Marci King added 14 kills on 31 attacks (.226).
The Frogs play a double-header on Saturday, taking on Tennessee at 12:30 p.m. and Denver at 5:00 p.m.
