TCU Captures Desert’s Edge Collegiate Cup Title

LOMA, Colo. – TCU triathlon turned in a complete team performance on Sunday, capturing the team title Desert's Edge Collegiate Cup.
The Horned Frogs placed four athletes inside the top 10 and six among the top 16 overall, led by a fifth-place finish from Marley Andelman. TCU finished ahead of a field that featured fellow nationally ranked programs Arizona, Arizona State, San Francisco, Denver and South Dakota.
Andelman paced the Frogs with a time of 1:03:20, crossing the line fifth overall. The junior made her move on the final leg of the race, clocking an 18:41 5K — the fastest run split of any athlete in the collegiate field.
TCU followed closely behind with three more athletes inside the top 10. Sara Gimena finished seventh in 1:03:38, Gwen Watson took eighth in 1:03:41 and Stefania Salazar crossed the line 10th in 1:04:34. Watson joined Andelman in separating herself on the run, posting the second-fastest 5K of the race in 18:54.
Anna-Maria Besenyei gave the Frogs their fifth finisher among the top 12, completing the course in 1:05:02. Eve Frost followed in 16th at 1:05:59, giving TCU six athletes inside the first 16 finishers.
TCU's depth continued throughout the field. Emily Knopfle placed 30th in 1:08:26, while Isabella Carreras rounded out the Frogs' finishers in 37th with a time of 1:10:50.
Sunday's performance came while Edita Pozlerová and Julia Visgueiro represented TCU at the World Triathlon Championships in Pontevedra, Spain, earlier in the week.
The Horned Frogs return home on Oct. 18 when TCU hosts the NCAA Western Regional Championships at Marine Creek Reservoir in Fort Worth.
