TCU picks up first victories of season on Saturday

SAN ANTONIO – The TCU swimming and diving program opened up the season with a pair of meets against Texas A&M and Incarnate Word, earning a pair of wins against the Cardinals on both the men's and women's side.

Versus Incarnate Word, the women's squad earned a 203.50-91.50 win, and the men's side posted a 169-130 victory.

In the season-opener against Texas A&M, TCU earned a pair of first-place results from Yochanan Meza in the 150 fly (1:21.42) and Aubrey Finn in the 50 fly (24.82). Contrary to a traditional dual meet, the scored intrasquad competition featured teams with combined drafted rosters that include both Texas A&M and TCU athletes that competed head-to-head in the pool.

TCU's showdown versus Incarnate Word saw an impressive total of 19 first-place results and a slew of top-three finishers that would appear in every event.

Opening the individual events in the 1000 free, TCU earned the top two finishers curtesy of newcomers Keren Ayzbruch (10:31.11) and Anna-Grace Guenther (10.40.96). The same would happen on the men's side, as Deacon Gutshall (9:30.66) and Cash Strickland (9:44.47) would follow up with the same success.

The Frogs would then earn a sweep in the women's 200 free from returners Avery Dillon, Eli Summa and Sydney Inman. The women's side would continue its streak in the 100 back, with Catherine Rowe finishing in 56.56 to win the event. Nigel Forbes (48.97) would grab the victory on the men's side.

Reigning NCAA Qualifier Nina Vadovicova (1:05.15) would post the win in the 100 breast.

On 1-meter, TCU would earn the top-three spots on both squads, as Eszter Kovacs (272.10), Emma Larcada Herrera (252.90) and Jordyn Warner (230.85) would hold up the top three places. On the men's side, Bryn James (324.83), Barrett Jacoby (315.15) and Elliott Dillon (292.73) would follow.

Hannah Wachendorfer snatched the win in the 100 free, touching the wall in 52.06. Darina Rakova continued her successful debut weekend with a 2:05.46 time in the 200 back to win the event.

Vadovicova would once again earn a win in the 200 breast, coming to a finish in 2:19.81. The 500 free saw a pair of first-place finishers in Taylor Steelman (5:09.57) and Gustshall (4:37.23). The 100 fly would have exactly the same tone set by the Frogs, as Finn (56.61) and Nigel Forbes (48.78) would earn wins.

The 3-meter diving event saw the same kind of success from TCU, as Larcada Herrera (260.55), Kovacs (259.73) and Warner (277.55) would fill up the podium on the women's side. The men's trio of Dillon (289.88), Jacoby (277.20) and James (267.98) would claim the top three spots.

In the 200 IM, Grant Chapa (1:53.33) and Wachendorfer (2:08.73) would each grab the victory in the event.

To close out the weekend, the men's 400 free relay squad of Forbes, Thomas Bradac, Jacob Gramer and Gabe Bosler-Kilmer won with a collective effort of 3:01.37.
