Second Horned Frog to take the title in as many years
MILWAUKEE, Wisc – From the moment the Milwaukee Tennis Classic draw was unveiled, Maximus Dussault and Cooper Woestendick were on a collision course.
Starting on opposite sides of the bracket, their paths finally crossed on Sunday in an all-TCU final. And the clash of the Horned Frogs delivered the desired competitive theatre as the invitational celebrated its 50th year.
In a match that was decided by a super tiebreaker, it was Woestendick who was one point better, as he earned a 6-2, 2-6, [10-8] decision over his teammate.
Trailing 3-2, Woestendick won four straight points to go up a mini break. Dussault then leveled the tiebreaker at 8-8, illustrating just how evenly the finalists competed. Woestendick subsequently won a crucial return point before serving out the tiebreaker and match.
TCU has now produced the last two Milwaukee Tennis Classic singles champions. Dussault claimed the crown in 2025. He was aiming to become only the third two-time champion in event history and the first repeat winner since 1998.
Woestendick, the preseason ITA No. 21 singles player, captured his first collegiate singles title. He won five matches and dropped just two sets all tournament. Seeded second, Woestendick rallied from a set down vs. No. 4 seed David Fix (Pepperdine) on Saturday in the semifinals for a 3-6, 7-5, [10-6] triumph.
The junior improved his career singles record to 30-7 overall and 8-2 vs. nationally-ranked players. Dussault was tabbed No. 111 in the first set of ITA singles rankings. Woestendick has won 13 of his last 14 completed matches as a Horned Frog.
Dussault picked up the highest-ranked win of his career in the semifinals, bouncing top-seeded and ITA No. 91 Igor Kudriashov of Ole Miss in straight sets, 7-6 (6), 6-4. A sophomore, Dussault had yet to lose a set at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic prior to Sunday's final.
The lefty added to his case to become a mainstay in TCU's dual lineup come 2027. Dussault is now 20-5 in singles play across his year-plus in purple and white, with 13 of his wins coming in fall invitationals.
He and Matthieu Chambonniere partnered on a semifinal run in doubles.
Chambonniere won four matches spanning both disciplines in his TCU debut. The junior picked up victories over Mississippi State's Marshall Landry and Nikola Puntaric of Illinois-Chicago in the opening rounds of singles play. Chambonniere nearly set up a showdown vs. Dussault in the last four. He narrowly lost out to Kudriashov in the quarterfinals. Chambonniere rolled to a 6-2 first frame but was unable to put away the Russian, falling 4-6 in the second set and dropping the super tiebreaker 3-10.
Excluding the finale, the trio collectively competed to a 12-3 combined overall record.
TCU now breaks for a week before taking aim at the ITA All-American Championships, held from Sept. 19-27 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The flagship ITA-sanctioned fall invitational is the first of four qualifiers for the NCAA Individual Championships. Chambonniere, Dussault and Woestendick will all see action on the plains as will juniors Albert Pedrico and Roger Pascual.
