Sophomore tossed eight shutout innings at Kansas State
FORT WORTH – TCU sophomore pitcher Zack James has been named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week for his performance in a 4-0 win at Kansas State on Sunday. The honor is the first of his career and the fourth for the Horned Frogs this season.
James held the nation's eighth-ranked offensive team to just five hits and seven total base runners over eight innings of work in just his second start of the season. He faced the minimum in four of eight innings and only faced more than four batters in an inning once. He induced two inning-ending double plays after allowing the lead-off batter to reach in the third and fourth innings. Three of his five strikeouts came in the final three innings he pitched.
James joins Noah Franco (Big 12 Pitcher of the Week, Feb. 16) and Lance Davis (Big 12 Pitcher and Newcomer of the Week, March 23) as honorees.
TCU (20-11) wraps up a four-game road trip Tuesday night at Abilene Christian. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at Crutcher Scott Field.
