Frogs challenge six top-10 teams at Charles Schwab Women’s Collegiate Invitational
FORT WORTH – TCU took the ultimate late-season litmus test on Monday, playing 36 holes opposite nine top-25 teams across day one at the Charles Schwab Women's Collegiate Invitational at Colonial Country Club.
Paired with No. 1 Stanford and No. 9 Wake Forest, the Horned Frogs shot a 12-over 292 in round two and finished 31-over (591) on the PGA Tour tested course.
TCU sits in 11th place and will tee off alongside No. 6 Auburn and No. 22 Arizona in Tuesday's final round.
Stanford (+2, 562) holds a seven-stroke lead in the 13-team field. Kiarra Romero, the world amateur No. 1, and Texas' Farah O'Keefe, the top-ranked collegian, are tied atop the individual leaderboard at three-under 137.
TCU shaved seven strokes off its scorecard from round one. The Horned Frogs will start round three within a five-stroke swing of ninth-place SMU. Only 10 strokes separate teams eight through 12 in the loaded field.
Kirstin Angosta was the Frogs' most consistent performer. The junior shot a 73 (+3) in both rounds and is tied for 27th. She fired a one-under 34 on the back nine in round one.
Gracie McGovern is tied for 34th and sits one stroke back of Angosta. She carded TCU's low 18 for the day, posting a two-over 72 in the second round. McGovern bagged three birdies on the front nine and was two-under (33) at the turn. She tacked one more on for good measure on the par-4 hole 15.
Three of the six Horned Frogs who teed it up posted a 73 in round one. Camille Min-Gaultier and Yvette O'Brien, who competed as an individual, matched Angosta while Sofia Barroso Sá shot an identical score in the afternoon.
Min-Gaultier (+9, 149) is tied for 54th while Barroso Sá, O'Brien and Sofie Dimitrova are gridlocked at T65 and 12 strokes over par.
TCU collected 21 birdies – the sixth-most of any team and rank fourth in par-5 scoring (-1, 4.95).
The Horned Frogs will tee off in 10-minute intervals on hole 10 beginning at 8:50 a.m. on Tuesday.
