Horned Frogs gear up for New Mexico Collegiate Classic and Charlie Thomas Invitational
FORT WORTH – TCU track and field is back in action with another split squad weekend at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic and Charlie Thomas Invitational.
The Horned Frog sprinters will travel to Albuquerque for the New Mexico Collegiate Classic. The meet features 16 combined Top 25 teams in this week's USTFCCCA National Track & Field Rating Index. TCU's distance and field events groups are set to travel down to College Station for the Charlie Thomas Invitational hosted by Texas A&M. The multis group will also compete for the first time this season in the Heptathlon and Pentathlon.
Heading into the weekend, the women rank No. 22 in the nation, highlighted by three top 10 event squads (60m, 200m and 400m). Freshman Indya Mayberry and senior Iyana Gray highlight the Frogs' sprinting success. Mayberry still holds the national lead in the 60m, a race which she will compete in this weekend in New Mexico. She and Gray also boast two of the top 200m performances in the country this season.
The men are sitting just outside the top 25 as a team after rising significantly in the polls. Ranked No. 6 in the South Central Region, the Frogs boast the second fastest Distance Medley Relay in the country and the No. 13 800m group. A big part of that success are seniors Kashie Crockett and Lloyd Frilot, who own top 25 times in the nation in the 200m and 800m, respectively. In the field events, Benjamin Kirbo has also had great success, taking down his own school record with the No. 23 ranked pole vault this season.
Last weekend, a pair of program records fell for TCU in Seattle at the UW Invite. Tabitha Ngao continued her dominance in the 800m, taking down the school record. She has won the event twice and broken the Texas A&M facility record this season. The men's DMR squad of Drew Oliver, Jordan Parker, Giovouni Henry and Mohamed Kowa shattered the previous TCU record by 10 seconds, throwing down a 9:40.89 to win the event with the second-fastest time in the NCAA this indoor season.
